First Cook

Good evening all--Just wanted to say hello as I purchased an XL BGE this past weekend which was delivered and installed less than 2 hours ago.  Consequently, I have a pork butt cooking over indirect heat while drinking scotch to kill some time and browsing recipes to throw some chicken wings on later haha.  This forum truly has an incredible amount of information for those of us new here, like myself, and I look forward to joining this BGE community.  Any advice or recommendations are always much appreciated!

  • Welcome, it's an incredibly productive way to waste time...and drink. There are so many great things to cook, you'll figure out your favorites with time.

Reverse sear steak is our favorite.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey.  I would start slowly with any after-market toys as there are always more opportunities to separate you from your $$ than $$ available.  ;)
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.
  • Thanks Meeeshigan, reverse searing is exactly what I'm looking forward to after a few cooks at low heat as recommended.

As a side note, both my older and younger brothers went to Penn State haha, but having gone to Pitt I sincerely thank you for Narduzzi.
  • Now you did it haha. Narduzzi is from Meatchicken State, good coach however.

Think I have reverse sear ribeyes nailed. 2" bone in smoked with hickory at 250 until 115 internal. BGE cast iron half moon on the fire ring at 600 for ten min while the steak rests, 60 sec a side. Perfect med rare with a nice crust.

  • Last night I threw some chicken wings on the BGE too, and they were the best wings I've ever cooked.  Needless to say, two more packages of wings were purchased for tonight.
