Main cooker...BGE, medium...backup Sears Elite Propane grill 15 years old...now, finally, replaced

OK, I do (on occasion) violate the prime directive and use a propane grill. Usually, due to time or weather issues that force me to do it on the quick. I bought a Sears Elite grill 15 years ago and it has given phenomenal performance. Great lifetime warranty on many parts. I think I have rebuild this beauty a few times over the years. However, time has taken its toll and I must replace it due to rust issues. I looked at the current Sears Elite grills and wasn't impressed. Soooo, went to the dark side and got a Weber Genesis 300. Its a beauty. Put it together this morning and will start cooking this weekend. I have some spare ribs to go slow cook on the BGE and will do some ancillary cooking (roast some corn and such) on the Weber.

Photos to follow later this weekend.

BTW, my BGE is over 16 years old and looks as good as the day I got it...take that you propane wannabees!

Why the soft-shoe?  Every job has a most appropriate tool, sometimes it’s burning lump in ceramic & others it’s burning briquettes or gas in metal; there’s no wrong way to get the right results, the Genesis is an awesome cooker, stop apologizing.

Yep, I'm hoping to get a Genesis at marked down "Winter is Coming" prices. Was going to get a Blackstone but realized I don't use the griddle I have now. Why buy another one? What works for one of us doesn't necessarily apply to all of us.

we use the Egg (you can just see it there on the lower level) 75% of the time, but our old Sears Elite worked well for many many years. I am in NE Pennsylvania and when the snow flies, well, my Egg is not gonna fly. The propane grill is right outside the patio door and gets a lot of winter and quick cook use.

This Weber took me about 1.5 hours to put together (I approach these builds slowly as I have been there and done that regarding mistakes) It is a beautiful work of grillmanship, heavy duty parts throughout. Was a little disappointed in the dedicated grill cover which I had to purchase seperately...(com'on Weber, $700 for a grill I think you can throw in a cover!). Its a little on the thin side but does come with a 3 year guarantee, so we shall see.

I debated about going with this Genesis 300 or with a 330 which has a side grill. My Sears Elite had a side grill which I loved...lol, I don't know why I loved it so much when I think I only used it 3 times in 15 years! The only 330 available at Home Depot was a copper colored model. I very much liked it at first, but the black enamel really impressed me but, no 330 model in black available at HD...so...I think for the 3 times I'll need a side burner in the NEXT 15 years I can figure out some other solution :)
