I have been craving some meatloaf for a couple of weeks so I thought that I would cook it on my egg. I have never made meatloaf before and cooked it on the egg. ANyone have any good American Meatloaf recepes? Have no idea of how to do this without drying it out much less how do you get the Ketchup to stay on top?[p]Seems like years ago when I made this and cooked it in the oven I used beef and pork but just cannot remember.

    Zilm,
This is the most incredible meatloaf I have ever had. Not exactly a simple recipe, but if you have been craving meatloaf that long, it is worth the effort.
    Cheers!

  • Zilm,
Here is one from a seasoned egg cook. Her dishes are to die for. Send me an Email address if you want more.[p]Meatloaf, Cherry Smoked, QBabe's

One of my favorite things on the egg!
    [p]1 lb ground beef
    1/2 tsp dry mustard
    1/2 lb ground pork
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
    1 cup italian bread crumbs
    1/4 tsp sage
    2/3 cup milk
    1 Clove garlic, crushed
    1 egg
3/4 tsp Dizzy Pig Cowlick Steak Rub
1 small onion, chopped (about 1/4 cup)
    Ketchup, for brushing
    1 Tbs Worchestershire sauce
    1 1/2 tsp salt

    1 Preparation Directions:
2 Preheat cooker to 350° with indirect setup.
3 Add cherry wood (I use several large chunks).
4 Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.
5 Shape mixture into a loaf and put into an ungreased loaf pan, 9x5x3 inches.
6 Brush top with ketchup and sprinkle with more Cowlick Rub.
    7 Cooking Directions:
8 Once cooker is stable, place meatloaf into egg and cook for 1.5 hours until done.
9 When meatloaf is done, remove from loaf pan and let sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Richard,[p]You beat me to it...thanks for the kind words![p]Tonia
    :~)

  • I wouldn't worry too much about drying it out as long as you get a ground beef with a moderate fat content (around 20%). That's the key imho.[p]Personally I leave off the sauce. It gets in the way of the nice smokey flavor from the egg.

A really easy recipe that I use to teach my kids to cook:
    2 lbs of 80% hamburger
    1 can of vegetable soup
1 sleeve of soda crackers (crushed)
    1 egg
Put in a 9X13 pan. You may top with ketchup or BBQ sauce.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour.
You can also put in muffin tins and bake for about 20 minutes.
