Recipe/Cook Book Template?

New EggHead here.  Picked up my LBGE on the 4th. Still have to build a table for it, so I haven’t used it.  Wifey says the swing I have been “meaning to get to” must be finished first.  Pretty good motivation though as I start on it again tonight.

Until then, I keep running across all sorts of great recipes/instructions on how to cook certain things, and I would like to start a little homemade recipe/cook book of things I want to try.

I understand I could just print the web page off and stick it in a folder, but I thought a word/excel template or something to keep all of them in the same format would be easier to use.

How do you guys organize your online recipes?

I send emails to myself with the recipe and title, for example, "Car Wash Mike's Ribs Big Green Egg". Then I can do a quick email search on "ribs" and were there.

There are software applications that can sometimes import recipes from various websites IF the website has them formatted "properly".

I've tried a few of those over the years but in the last couple years I usually just make a pdf of the web page and tag it so I can just do a quick search on my pc.

I use Google Chrome, and just bookmark anything worth saving. Makes it available on all of my devices.

Playing around with Evernote and their clip feature.  I kind of like it!

I cut and paste into a word document per recipe so I can edit or make notes down the road...Main file folder for "recipes" with multiple folders inside. Also using dropbox so I can see them from most anywhere.

I use Microsoft OneNote.  Any recipe or article I see on the web, I choose Print To Onenote.  From there you how you organize is endless.  Very simple when browsing the web.  Sometimes, I choose copy and paste..

I used to keep recipes either in Word files or, if I found them on the web, I'd just save a copy of the web page in the recipes folder.  I had different folders for different types of recipes, etc..  It worked pretty well.

But now I use Paprika, which is available both for Windows and Mac, as well as iOS, Android, Kindle and Nook.  I really like it.  You can set up any kind of nested folders you find handy, plus instant searching either by name, ingredients or source.  For most recipe sites, it can automatically at the touch of a button convert the recipe from a web page and import it into Paprika.  For "odd" sites like the EggHead Forum, it's still really easy to copy and paste into the ingredients section, the directions section, drag and drop a photo, etc..  It'll store a photo of the dish, a link to where it came from, notes, nutritional information (if you're interested), plus it can generate a grocery list from the recipes you're about to cook.  A slight down side is that you have to buy a separate copy for each device, so for me, that's one copy on my Mac, one on my iPhone and one on my iPad, but they're not super expensive, and I really love using the app.  It's just super handy to have very recipe I want right in my pocket anywhere I go, too.

I have liked Evernote, and would have recommended that as a free alternative, but they just changed their policy and the free version now only allows two devices, like your computer and 1 phone.  I'm so irritated that I think I just won't use it at all anymore.  I guess they won't miss my business, though, because I used the free plan...  :)

Hard drives crash and computers get stolen. My "cream of the crop" recipes are in an old envelope. Call me old fashioned.

I am liking the Evernote app so far with the Clip tool.  But, with the free version, I am already at 75% upload capacity for the month with 8 recipes added.  In the grand scheme of things that isn't TOO bad, but the starting of a new cookbook adding multiple recipes will stink for a while.  I am cheap, so I like free
