Need New Dome Thermometer

I have a seven year old large and it appears the thermometer went bad. It gives real erratic readings, tried to recalibrate it but no go. So what is a recommended replacement?

It seems the debate is between teletrue and smokeware with good and bad experiences on both sides.
I opted for the blackface smokeware. So far, very happy. It's accurate, easy to read, and looks cool.
Most of the teletrue offerings that fit the egg had the zones printed on them (smoking, grilling, searing) For some reason, I have an aversion to these "suggestions" being on my thermo.

Only can comment on the tel-tru thermos. Solid and hold their single point calibration check just fine. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

I agree. Simple to calibrate and mine has held steady for nearly two years now.lousubcap said:Only can comment on the tel-tru thermos. Solid and hold their single point calibration check just fine. FWIW-
But I'll add one point: dome temperature is very different from grid temperature, and I get much better results by monitoring the temp down there at the level of my meat. I really don't care that much what the dome thermometer is reading.Cincinnati, Ohio. Large BGE since 2011. Still learning. -
What is the technique or tool for measuring temp at level of meat?

@txhawkeye
Consider going digital. Probes from some digital thermometers fit nicely into the dome of the egg.

In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
Thanks for the input @OhioEgger what do you use to monitor grid temp I have always went by dome temp knowing the grid is hotter but probably good to know the true grid temp @jtcBoynton what is the setup you use?

I've been thinking about getting one of the black smokwares just so I can see it better from the kitchen window.2-XLs ,MM,blackstone,Ooni koda 16,R&V works 8.5 gallon fryer,express smoker and 40" smoking cajun

Tracking the grid temp is my technique, and I use a Maverick ET-732.
If you Google around, you can usually find a good price. Mine is five years old and still works great.
It comes with a little clip to attach it to your grid (a fraction of an inch above the grid, actually). Or you can just use a wooden spring clothespin to hold it where you want it.
I know opinions differ, but all I can say is that my BBQ results improved noticeably once I started paying less attention to the dome temp and more to the grid temp.Cincinnati, Ohio. Large BGE since 2011. Still learning. -
@OhioEgger thanks for the info, sounds like something I need to purchase instead of guessing like I am now.
