Do you have to remove that handle every time you use it? or does it shove in so far it clears the vent door?

The handle slides down out of the round portions. Its either a KJ piece or a facsimile thereof.

I like shiny new things for my egg as much as anyone, but sometimes I have to take a breath and talk myself off of the ledge on things like this that I just don't need

I have one on my BigJoe. Looks like the same thing.

It works great, and I can hit 900 F with it in for hot and fast pizza.
