Wireless Remote Thermometer

Seeing the conversation regarding the I-Grill discussion made me think. It's been a while since I've seen a thread regarding wireless remote thermometers and I started wondering if there are any new/improved models out there. I have a Maverick ET-732, but have not really liked it as much as I had hoped. It is not accurate and has poor range. The remote constantly drops connection despite only being 50 feet or so away from the transmitter. My cousin has an old Thermoworks thermometer which is as accurate as my Thermopen.
Before pulling the trigger, I thought I'd ask the experts here for advice?
Thanks in advance!

I have the Bluetooth ThermoWorks unit. It is extremely accurate.....and has extremely poor range. Now granted I am in a metal building. But unless my tablet is sitting on the window ledge where my wife sews it disconnects. Even on the window ledge...which is about 12' from the unit itself it will often disconnect. From what I understand Bluetooth has very limited range.....

My igrill works great BUT Bluetooth is what it is .... :-(More meat please !! :-)

As long as I leave my tablet, what I use to monitor the temperature remotely, in the window all is well. I may take the ThermoWorks outside and walk around outside with the tablet...just to see if my building is the reason for my troublesXLentEGG said:My igrill works great BUT Bluetooth is what it is .... :-( -
I can chime in on the Maverick's as I have 4 of them...an early version under a re-branding, the 732, the 733 and now the 735. I don't love them, but they are readily available and easy (if not annoying) to use.Wylecyot said:...I started wondering if there are any new/improved models out there. I have to tell you I never had range issues with the 732 or 733. They work pretty well for me other than in the middle of a cook (usually at night) they will momentarily lose connectivity, beep, wake my wife up, she get's mad at me, I look over at the Maverick and find it has regained connectivity. I get significantly more range than 50 feet and can hit my grill from any room in the house that backs to the yard where the BGE is located.
I bought the 735 as I needed some new probes anyway, and the models now come with the high temp waterproof probes, which are nice. Plus the 735 has four thermistor inputs which is great for cooking multiple items and only using one receiver.
The bluetooth range of the 735 is not as good as the wireless range of the 732 and 733. So, that is a little annoying, but it's not awful. The phone app interface is pretty sh*tty, BUT, is better than the 733 which was better than the 732.
A neat thing about the 735 is you set your limits and such on the App and it seems to program them to the receiver. So even if you lose connectivity to the receiver, the thing still beeps at you when you hit your marks.
I haven't used the 735 on an overnight cook yet to check on the wife-wake factor.
So, I'd say if you are used to your 732 and want a much more updated version, try the 735. It's still pretty cheap for the functionality. Wish it had a wifi interface though so the app could monitor it from anywhere.

If you have a wifi controller (CyberQ, Stoker, Flameboss) you might think about using them as a temp monitor. You don't have to use the blower ... simply use the temp monitoring capability.
If I'm going to sit by the egg then the Thermowork's ChefAlarm is great. I have the FB200 and have started using it to monitor temps when not sitting by the egg. No worries about range ... the signal reaches my router, so the resultant range for monitoring is limitless. Set your maximum/minimum and the Flameboss computer will send you a text. I have a particularly loud, long and obnoxious ring tone associated with the Flameboss text number ... it'll almost wake up the dead.
With the ChefAlarm and the Flameboss 200 (purchased in June of last year) my 732 & 733 Mavericks have become obsolete.
