Lid underbite... anyone know of a good youtube for help?

Have XL and wondering if I need to remove the springs?  Upper band rides to high in the rear and lower band is too high in the front.  Have never done any adjustments in the 3 years I've had it...but it's due.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Why in the hell does he have high temp RTV on his gasket surface? Scrape the old one off and reinstall a new one. Please tell me this isn't a common practice...lol

    care to be a little more clear? your post title implies underbite, but your text implies your bands appear out of whack. Are you actually experiencing gaps?

    Your planes are out of whack. First figure out where the space is and how much. IOW Is the back sitting down or vice versa?

    Then depending on which do this. For instance if the back is sitting down leaving the front open...

    Place 1 or more quarters on the gasket edge at the back and close your dome. Then loosen your band and press down. That should raise the rear a bit, but tilt the dome forward. Tighten bolts, then remove quarters. Since the gasket will absorb some of that thickness when compressed you might want to start with at least 2 quarters or even 3. There is the chance that you'll solve one issue and create another.

    @Jstroke thanks for the call. Very helpful!  I didn't have time to play too much with the dollar test. The few times that I did I kept creating a gap on the other side with each attempt. If I was doing it right seems like that is a very delicate process. I'll have another go at it tomorrow since a brisket is going on tomorrow night.

    Was just about to post the same question, followed the advice in the clip and now the dome is aligned. Perfect, thanks.

    @RRP and @CheeseheadinAZ:

    I got my xl perfectly aligned per Rons instrux.   I got lower band to upper edge, got upper band perfectly aligned per the plastic tabs.  Dollar bill test all the way around was perfext on my xl with new rutland gasket.  Then, upon spring reattach, i noticed a gap at the back so i said screw it amd undid the springs.   Perfect alignment, no leaks or gaps amd it jaut takes a little more effort to lift the lid. No big deal
