Where is the prize located? He may have won it in Chatanooga, but lives somewhere else.

Is the warranty transferable on something like that, since it's never been out of its box?

If he won the Egg and wants to sell it he should donate the money to the event's charity cause.

    Just sayin'

@THEBuckeye I see almost 90% of the raffle/charity giveaways priced at retail or the price doesn't budge because, although they got it free, they want every nickel and dime out of it. I have seen a Mini posted for $500. Large egg asking over 1k.

Congrats to your buddy either way that won it.

Not necessarily free. I know a dealer in ATL who did give a (bogus) 15% "discount" for a charity event.

    He lives in Chatanooga.

It is still in the box...unopened.

Can someone knowledgable comment on how the warranty works???  I am assuming that whoever buys it will register it under their own name....but I do not know !!!

    Thanks,

The warranty thing is a little ambiguous.  On the registration page there is an option to check "promotion/contest" so you can register your egg.  However, the warranty states "A valid proof of purchase receipt from an Authorized Dealer will be required to make a Warranty claim."  It seems if someone offers this in a contest they should give the recipient a receipt. Do you know if your buddy got any kind of receipt?   I would imagine if there are any issues a call for the mothership might sort it out.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

@pgprescott A business can donate or not as they please. My main point is when one "wins" at a charity event the "winnings" should be returned to the benefit of the charity.

Don't forget to pay taxes on the "win" (and on any gain on the resale)

Maybe with cash, but prizes, not so much.

I am sure the winner either won an auction or has paid a entry fee that more than doubles the charity take. It's nice when people donate back the monetary prizes, or actual prizes to be auctioned a second time, but the charities don't expect that. They want participation. The prizes foster participation. Otherwise you can just send a check an d forgo the expenses of the party all together. Truth is the event and prizes increases their fundraising abilities.

I do like your sentiment though.

    I get it.

The big picture is that the prizes and or cash promotes participation. The efforts of the many far outweighs the efforts of the few. (See our tax code).

If this offends you, just message the OP and find out the charity and send them 1k. There, all is square. Your 1 k is the same as his 1k. Hell, give them retail, make it 2k. Better yet.

Way more important things to be critical of IMO.

Thrillseeker asked  "With modifications, Is that table big enough to hold a large and a medium?"

I looked at the online video about assembling a BGE cypress table.  The table top for a large is 60" long, which is plenty wide for both a medium and a large.

    BUT

The precut hole in a large table looks to come nearly to the middle of the table top.  You probably can make a medium fit, but they will end up close together.

From the old BGE table plans (before they started selling tables themselves), the medium hole needs to be 18", while the large is 21".    You should be able to leave 10" or more between the egg holes and still avoid the legs at the other end.

You will need to make 2 adjustments (plus create a new hole for the med!), neither one is very hard.

    (1) the top does not have any struts under it.  When you cut a second hole you will have to put a strut of some sort under the table top piece between the 2 eggs.  A 2x4 will be more than sufficient.

    (2) you will have to put something under the table nest for the medium to raise the egg. The old BGE plans for the large egg says the bottom shelf needs to be 15" below the top of the table, while the medium's bottom shelf needs to be 13" below the top.  You will have to use something to raise the table nest up 2", or alternatively forget the next and use something like 4" of fireproof pavers (chimney liners) under the medium egg.

Had one and just replaced it with one I built.  You could probably set a medium off to the one side as the hole for the large is towards one end.
But, those things are NOT over engineered.  I'd be concerned about the total weight on the table.  Mine was sagging pretty good after 5 years with just the large in it.

Hopefully we'll have a new egg / multiple egg owner around here soon. I sent the contact info to my friend from those that inquired.

    I don't know why he didn't just keep it.....he isn't a very smart friend....just a good friend !!!!!

Can't believe this wasn't snatched up especially if the warranty works out.
