We lost power during the middle of the night on Saturday; luckily I was able to salvage the cook as I woke up before the fire died. That Smobot unit with the batteries looks enticing now

You can power any of them off a 12V power source. I just use a little adapter plug then run the wires to an old lead acid backup battery from my garage door opener. You can also use a jump pack, alarm back-up battery, two 6V lantern batteries wired in series, etc.
With the FB200, if you lose your home power, then you're probably lose your router and modem if those do not have a battery back up. The unit will still do everything operationally, you just won't be able to monitor it online and get the messages. You could always turn on the hot spot on your phone and allow the FB200 to connect to the internet through that......it works, I've tried it.
Quickest, easiest solution for you, whole house generator with an automatic transfer switch!

I have an Auber. I was getting tired of the temp swings I was getting from it until I found the answer to the problem .All you have to do is make sure you don't use controller to bring egg to temperature and install Auber when you are within about 20 degrees of your desired temp .But most of all only leave top vent open just the thickness of a dime . I also just got something for my Chargriller Akorn called a Tip Top Temperature control . 30 bucks and it works well .
http://tiptoptemp.com/
They say it will work on an Egg but I'm still trying to figure out how to mount it to Egg .When I use it on the Acorn I install it on the top vent let grill come to temp ,set temp knob and CLOSE lower vent.VERY easy and no electrics . Just a metal spring controls the temp . Distributed by Maverick Industries .

This morning found easy way to use Tip Top on Egg .I have a Smoke Ware cap .What I do is remove the top part of Smoke Ware and slide Tip Top in bottom sleeve of Smoke Ware ,fits well enough that when lid is open it will not fall off .It has been holding set temp with bottom vent wide open better than my Auber ever did ,has not budged from set 220 degree setting except when I turned it up to 230 and is rock solid there right now . This is so simple to use it is amazing ,going to order one more as back up. When something works this good I get two .Cheap at three times the price .

i use a tip top on my vision kub, works really well if the wind doesnt hit it. with the smokeware does it block the wind from opening the tiptop flapper. for those that already have the cap, this might be the simplest most inexpensive method out theresctdg said:This morning found easy way to use Tip Top on Egg .I have a Smoke Ware cap .What I do is remove the top part of Smoke Ware and slide Tip Top in bottom sleeve of Smoke Ware ,fits well enough that when lid is open it will not fall off .It has been holding set temp with bottom vent wide open better than my Auber ever did ,has not budged from set 220 degree setting except when I turned it up to 230 and is rock solid there right now . I have not used Tip Top in high wind condition ,right now my weather station at my house is reading about only 5mph . Don't know how wind could lift damper because with mine when it comes to set temperature it is pretty well closed and unless you are getting really strong winds can't understand how it would get lifted . The way you would set Tip Top in smoke ware I think you can lift lower sleeve of smoke ware and protect Tip Top from wind even putting the smoke ware cap back on ,going to try that later .

Love my FB200, and as others have said the tech support is top notch.Egging year 'round in North Dakota

Went out to Egg and gave it a try putting Tip top further down in smoke ware base . not working for me ,I think it has to do with how low I have gasket on Egg top neck .I believe with a little change like moving gasket further up neck it will work . Anyway the way it is working right now is amazing ,love it .Could not be any more happy with set up .sctdg said:fishlessman said:

On Akorn I use a plate holder to mount Tip Top ,on Egg with Smoke Ware it's a no brainer .fishlessman said:
