Thats a tough one. When i take my minimax to college football games, we leave ot in back of pickup truck with a cable through the air inlet down below and through the chimney. All coals get removed but the ceramic stays hot for a long time.

I take my large tailgating. After removing the coals, the egg is cooled in 30-45 minutes so I always plan on food being off about an hour before we head into the game.

Pour water on it when emptied.

I ended up closing the vent for 20 minutes then picked all large pieces out with tongs. Then added a little water to makes sure no lit ambers. Was about 200 when I put in back of the suburban on blocks to make sure wasn't to close to the carpet. Was a great night and great way to start off the minimax!

Be careful with fumes putting it IN a vehicle.

@stompbox, yes was concerned about that but had it empty and fire out for 30 minutes before I put in car. Was actually suprised when I got back to car expected a strong smell but there was none.

I'm trying to think of a way to take my Mini-max bumpergating tomorrow for a baseball game. Small sedan car but problem would be cooling offAustin, Tx

Does it need to be a Big Green Egg? I was tailgating with my small at softball weekly and finally said to myself what am I doing? Unless you're doing a low and slow cook a basic Weber Joe or Jumbo Joe is perfect for tailgating. It's light, can be dumped out with one hand, can be placed back in vehicle within 5 minutes of dumping the coals, and don't need to worry about some jack wagon stealing or knocking it over. I haven't looked back since making the switch for basic tailgating. Just a thought. The Big Green Egg works too good in situations like these!"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan
