Loud pop...

just heard a loud pop while starting the fire in my egg. Does that usually mean a crack? Hadn't heard anything like it before while cooking on the egg.

Could just be the lump. Mine pops some just depending on the bag of lump.

Sometimes but,  not always. Considering you said you heard this while starting the fire it would likely be lump popping.
Had it been lit awhile and you heard it later then.... Maybe the bands & hinge assy expansion from heat transfer or ceramics. Just be mindful and inspect when cleaning out your egg.

Probably a piece of lump, but check for cracks after your cook.

I've heard lots of pops coming from my egg. One day I thought I heard a different, deeper pop. That was almost two years ago and I still haven't noticed any damage to my egg. My fire box and ring have cracks but they were, and still are there. Now I'm thinking it might be time to get replacements for those parts so I have them when things really do fall apart.

Just look things over and remember to check every so often in case something opens up.

When I have fresh lump, I use Mesquite, it pops and cracks...after initial burn it stops. Only one,way to find out if it's cracked...
