Lodge CI Griddle

I had been thinking about a CI half moon reversible, but those two small openings toward the center have steered me away from those due to the primary two things I had in mind...blackened catfish and smashed burgers...kicking out a pretty good amount of grease/butter that I don't want dropping down into the fire. Today I saw this one in Target:

Anyone use this on the grill? Aside from not fitting the grate evenly like a half moon, this seems like it gets me what I had in mind since the slightly raised edges are going to catch any grease/melted butter.

That is made from cast aluminum??? just my bet. Personally I would get a Cast Iron Skillet from lodge--more versatile. Almost indestructable. If that griddle is non stick run away.Columbus, Ohio--A Gasser filled with Matchlight and an Ugly Drum.

Cast iron. https://www.lodgemfg.com/griddles-and-grill-pans/double-play-reversible-grill-griddle.asp I have a 12" and 10" skillet, but when i do smash burgers, or blacken fish, I can only do 2 at a time most of the time. This would get me close to knocking all of them out at once (I think)--Because I'm like ice, buddy. When I don't like you, you've got problems.

The two "openings" you speak of, are those the indented pieces for a grease trap? You don't even have to worry if thats the case, as it traps a ton of grease and the half moon griddle has a raised edge already that you would be surprised how much grease it can actually trap.clemsontyger97 said:I had been thinking about a CI half moon reversible, but those two small openings toward the center have steered me away from those due to the primary two things I had in mind...blackened catfish and smashed burgers...kicking out a pretty good amount of grease/butter that I don't want dropping down into the fire.
During a cook if I feel like there is too much grease I use a paper towel in my tongs and soak up the grease and its good to go.XLBGE, MMBGE, CyberQ -
@1move this is the one I had been looking at http://www.amazon.com/Reversible-Griddle-Large-Kamado-Grills/dp/B014TUZCCM Those small openings are what had been deterring me since it didn't seem like there was any raised edge on that end.--Because I'm like ice, buddy. I have that one and use it on my Adjustable Rig. Works great. It won't fit right down on the grate of the BGE, so the AR works fine to get it high enough up to fit. Not sure about the KJ interior dimensions. You could also look at the Lodge pizza pan to do the same thing without the AR. http://www.amazon.com/Lodge-Pro-Logic-P14P3-Pizza-14-inch/dp/B0000E2V3X?

I have two different lodge reversable griddles. They are my two least used pieces of CI. Why? Because they are more of a pain to clean. Maybe not a big deal, but I always reach for a griddle that isn't reversible.Phoenix

i kinda agree. however, to overcome this i only use the flat sideblasting said:I have two different lodge reversable griddles. They are my two least used pieces of CI. Why? Because they are more of a pain to clean. Maybe not a big deal, but I always reach for a griddle that isn't reversible. -
In that case I would go with whatever size of cast iron pan you can fit into your eggclemsontyger97 said:@1move this is the one I had been looking at http://www.amazon.com/Reversible-Griddle-Large-Kamado-Grills/dp/B014TUZCCM Those small openings are what had been deterring me since it didn't seem like there was any raised edge on that end.XLBGE, MMBGE, CyberQ -
I have a Lodge 20" CI skillet that I bought at Cabellas on sale for $39 last year. Perfect for XL.
Ive been using the 14" for smashburgers as it was an unused Christmas gift from my daughter, so I felt obligated to use it.Donnie Dawes - RNNL8 BBQ - Carrollton, KY

Your sig says a KJ Classic- I don't think that griddle will fit. I haven't done the geometry but if it is 16.75 x 9.5 I don't think that will fit inside an 18 " circle.
I think the 14 inch round might be your best bet. Something like this:
http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/outdoor-gourmet-14-preseasoned-round-griddle
or this if you want it to have the grill pan side:
https://www.amazon.com/Bayou-Classic-7414-Reversible-Griddle/dp/B00062WTQ0/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1465386308&sr=8-9&keywords=14+inch+round+griddle
I have this one. I like it but it doesn't come pre-seasoned. It is not big deal to season it though.
...or the lodge pizza pan shown above.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
Here's what I use on the xl's... 20"

I have had mine for quite a few years, used mostly while camping when our kids were young (now adults). What I really like about it was the grease catcher. I still occasionally use it today for pancakes......she still performs.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

Yes that will work. I bought one back in March to use on my Large. I got tired of using my CI skillet that I use inside on my egg so I bought this to use exclusively on my egg and it works great. It will sit right on top of the grate at any level. I bought mine at TJMaxx for $20.clemsontyger97 said:Cast iron. https://www.lodgemfg.com/griddles-and-grill-pans/double-play-reversible-grill-griddle.asp I have a 12" and 10" skillet, but when i do smash burgers, or blacken fish, I can only do 2 at a time most of the time. The dimensions work on your large? Was looking at comment from @SmokeyPitt above and had not even thought about it not working out (I always sucked at math/geometry).saluki2007 said:

I have one of those too, and found it at Marshalls (same as TJ Maxx) for like $20. The other side is grooved, and I used it at Ga Mtn eggfest as a finishing press for my cuban sandwiches. Heated it up in egg, and then put the sandwiches on the regular grate with ribbed side down on top of Cubans--worked great with a couple of sandwiches at once--would be too heavy for regular sandwich bread. Looked like it had been in a Panini press.
