    Well, you could still open it and see the flakes. Could have been worse. If you had an old gasket, might have melted the Egg shut. Or fallen off onto your shoulders when you leaned in to see what the damage might be.

    I lost the photo, but I did this and my gasket  started on fire.. On the outside. Yikes.  The next day, my to and bottom were fused, the gasket now like glass. I used a hacksaw to saw out the old gasket.
