Bad luck

Bad luck for me lately in terms of the Big Green Egg.  Late last year I was cleaning out the egg and noticed a crack in the fire ring and the fire grate.  Knowing its under warranty and still completely functional it was not big deal.  Fast forward to this year.  I was cooking two weeks ago and noticed I have a crack running down the back and underside of the base.  Went to cook yesterday and as I was setting my plate setter in the egg in snapped in half in my hands, didn't even drop/bump it.  In th scheme of life it's no big deal of course but really feel unlucky when it comes to the egg lately

I feel your pain. Our Large developed an odd crack. Talked to Bruce, the warranty guy at BGE about it.....he said he has never seen a crack like this...it was half moon shaped ...this was after getting a warranty base and firebox for the XL...only to have them both crack....and then there was the XL fire ring that arrived in 4 pieces..all in under a year....chit happens. Just glad for the warranty...

@Pghegger ... I assume you're still in Pittsburgh?  Who's your dealer?  I'm from the area and just wondered if we go to the same one and how they were w/ dealing with these types of issues.

Got a ceramic platesetter this past Christmas and was moving packages to another room. Plate slid out of box, hit the floor, and split in two. But wifey came home a couple days later with a CI plate. All's well that ends well

I was told the Plate Setter is not covered by the warranty, so that is going to be a cost. I'd get the iron one to replace it, if I needed to.

Part of the (high) cost of Big Green Eggs is the warranty... don't hesitate to use it. BGE is not shy about charging for it, so no reason to be shy about using it. You paid for spare parts when you bought it.

That is indeed why they are pricey. BGE knows there is going to be some failures....
