...also keep in mind that my propane torch is being applied through the vent hole after having taken out the OEM CI grate and replacing it with the KickAshBasket. Big difference in airflow and many other factors yet I don't see why it wouldn't apply to the CI grate other than the flame spreading to other areas on the lump pile as it reflects/seeks out neighboring holes. The MAPP fuel might be more effective in this scenario depending on what you're after (especially with no firestarter).

Yes thats the BGE rib rack. I bought it because I knew it would fit more than anything else. I think there are probably better and cheaper options if you look around.THEdexaTRON said:Welcome to the MiniMax family. I got one about 2 weeks ago. I'm going to do my first cook tonight on it.
Is that the big green egg rib rack? I've been debating about picking up a rib rack for my eggEdmonton, Alberta - XL & Minimax -
I bought fire starters and the plate setter yesterday. The firestarters made it easier to get things started. It really smoked quite a bit when i put the platesetter in for some reason.Eggzellent said:...also keep in mind that my propane torch is being applied through the vent hole after having taken out the OEM CI grate and replacing it with the KickAshBasket. I believe that it is similar to the same effect as smothering the fire with the chips; especially if it was 'legs up' and you had a lot of lump in there. For some reason, I really like to get mine smoking to beat the band when I close the lid for the first time with either planks, chunks or chips (which is probably wrong..yet I can't stop).

@matoch run it for about 20 minutes before you put the plate setter in. I always let the VOC's burn off first and once I have a clean burn I add the PSXLBGE, MMBGE, CyberQ

Hi. Another Egghead here. Love the Mini Max. I also have a large and it's a perfect size to compliment it. I've been experimenting with getting it searing hot and doing thick steaks on it. I use a looftlighter in the vent hole to help the fire get up in the 800 degree stage then through the steak on and close the lid. I do about 2 minutes a side on an inch thick room temperature steak and they come out pretty perfect. That's a blue flame coming out the top.

Welcome to the Eggdiction @matoch. Looks like you are well on your way. Once the rest of your family taste your food you will want to get that XL you were talking about. I love mine. Enjoy the ride.
