Salmon and Shrimp tonight

As an Orthodox Christian we are still in the season of Great Lent, and so I am cooking shrimp for us and salmon for the kids (they fast less strictly than we do).  I plan to do the salmon first at about 400 or so, raised direct, and then the shrimp afterwards since they ought to take less than 5 min or so at the same temperature.  The salmon was marinated at Ingles, and I brushed the shrimp (on skewers) with oil and then dusted it with a garlic/herb/salt commercial mixture.  I'll post pics when it's all done.

Whoa -- another Orthodox Egger!!!  Way cool!  I didn't think I could be the only one, but I've never seen anyone else say so before.  Delighted for the camaraderie!!!  :)

It's been difficult seeing post after post, lately, of incredibly gorgeous, edge-to-edge pink perfection ribeye roasts, tri-tips, other wonderful looking meat, when meat's off the table until May!  I was just looking up vegan grilling recipes online, but I can't say any of them looked too interesting to me.  I haven't used my Eggs since Lent began.

I grilled a lemon-achiote grilled tofu recipe, once, and can't say it was completely wonderful.  I wound up making tacos with it, and with enough seasonings, etc., it was pretty good, but I notice that I've never made it again...

A few nights ago I made a vegan variation on Szekely Goulash, using browned, poached tempeh instead of pork, with sauerkraut, onions, paprika, a little tomato paste, caraway, some other stuff.  If you like that sort of thing, it was WAY too good for fasting food!  <laughing>

I do splurge and cook shrimp, once in a while, in a fast, haven't yet this Lent.  I look forward to seeing your pictures, and may you and yours have a blessed Lent, and a joyous Pascha!
  • And to you and yours as well Theophan.

    Getting warmed up now.

The shrimp look good. I cooked very large shrimp (Prawns) last weekend. They were not my best success,
I'm going to have a do over with medium shrimp this week.
