new owner question

I got my Egg for Easter and I am psyched. I put it all together today - - -my question is about the band that tightens around the top and bottom edges.   Am I supposed to tighten this as much as I can or will this crack the ceramic?  I'm not exactly a muscle man (more like a wimpy girl) - can I just tighten away???

(happy easter!)

Tighten till there is a slight bend in the bolts.

You can tighten as far as you can

If you crack the dome or base then back off a 1/8th of a turn. ;)

The bolts bend, and the force from the band is uniform.  No worries on cracking with the supplied hardware.

That musta been one hell of a bunny to lay that egg.  Congrats on the BGE and welcome aboard.

Thanks everyone.   I'm inaugurating it with low temp chicken breast tonight - fresh kielbasa and grilled pineapple as part of the Easter meal tomorrow. :)

Also, recheck bolt tightness after a few cooks, then every few months after.

Keep an eye on those bands... as they shift and move so does your top/bottom alignment.
Keep them near the gasket, all the way around.

Congratulations on the new acquisition. Carnivorous season is just beginning.
