Wanting a new wireless thermometer and a way to track the cook online / app

So what do you guys recommend?

I am currently using a Remington wireless thermometer to track food and grate temp. I get a LOT of LLL readings even with new batteries. My temp can fluctuate a lot, and the grate thermo doesn't really attach good on my grate, it just kinda sits there. It doesn't have the little clamps / teeth that I see a lot of you have on yours.

I would also like to be able to track my temperatures online or an app like some of you do when you post your cooks.

Any recommendations would be very helpful.

There is one called Tappecue that is a wireless thermometer:

Just my $.02, but it is pretty pricey and for a little more you could get something that is actually a controller and has wireless access like a flameboss wifi.

PM @stlcharcoal and get some pricing (in addition to being the king of Rockwood he also distributes other grilling goodies).

There are several options now with loyal followers. I own the CyberQ Wifi which allows me to track and adjust online using a web browser or the app I am currently using called "The Pit Pal". Good consistent results for me.

Not 'just' a wireless thermometer though...

Also to add for something less expensive you can look at the iGrill. It is bluetooth so it doesn't monitor remotely (like if you are out of the house). It does have an app that graphs the temps but you have to be within range. The range is fairly limited. Mine doesn't work everywhere in my house. Walls will also impact it. For example, it doesn't work in my office that is only about 40 ft away but I think that it is because the chimney on my house is right in the line of site.

There are some "hacks" to make it remote. Basically if you have an extra device like an ipad you can leave it near the device, then they sell apps to mirror your ipad to another device.

I really like the Flame Boss 200. Simple wifi setup, monitor and adjust from anywhere with internet. Flame Boss support is phenomenal.

CyberQ can do that, but requires a lot more network configuration.

If you contact @stlcharcoal he can quote prices and talk about pros/cons for most the controllers.

I have been looking at all 3, the cyberQ, flame boss 200 and digiQ dx2. I LOVE how the FB you can see the graphs and track the cook. The digiQ I can get for almost $130.00 cheaper (at the sites I was on.)

I would like to be able to see the graph at the end of my cook just to give me a piece of mind knowing that it's working properly. If I went the digiQ 2 it doesn't appear I can get that feature. So maybe I will have to go flame boss.

I got a Stoker II and have been pleased with it. The customer service needs a lot of work, but the unit has been great. I have only been using it locally over wifi, haven't set it up to run over the internet yet. I use a PC program to track the cook and can add notes to show what I did and when. This is a fan controller unit. I run 2 temp probes and one meat temp probe. I wouldn't go this route if you don't want a fan unit, but I will say it's very handy on the long cooks.

The standard browser interface is on the left and the StokerLog software is on the right.

Not 'just' a wireless thermometer though...

I have a cyberQ and it works great for overnight brisket cooks.

I have the i-grill 2 with 4 ports.

It is 2nd best to only the BGE I just bought.

The bluetooth works to my Ipad in the house on the couch with loud alarms to tell you everything.. when to flip, when ambient tempterure is low/reached/high and preset internal temps for food.

You know, I hear people say that, but I have a CyberQ and use it in "infrastructure" mode--which is supposedly the one that people have problems with--and I've never had any issues. I'm not a network guy... it just works.

Here are a couple of screen shots from the PitPal iPhone app. The app works on local WiFi or anywhere there's Internet access. I can control it from a computer, but I never find any reason to.

@DeltaNu1142 if you are not on the same wifi network does it still work that way?

From your phone, with wifi off, can you still control it? My understanding was you needed to setup port forwarding and ftp style setup in order to control from off-site.

FB100 is equivalent to the digiq. It has no internet/wifi capability.

Yes--I'm at work, and if my CyberQ were plugged in, the app would work as if I were sitting on my couch. I see in the app my CyberQ is using port 85, which was probably already forwarded in my router. I really don't remember, it's been a couple of years since I set it up. FTP? No, definitely not.

The Flame Boss is simplicity defined - enter your WiFi ID and password..........done. No network engineering required.

You can run a cook from anywhere on Earth with it as long as you have a web connection.

Sounds like the flame boss is the way to go. I'm leaning towards that. It would be nice to see my temps while I'm not at home. THat might be worth the extra $100

Reading the above, if I were going down this road I would get whatever enables you to remotely control the unit. Nothing worse than seeing the data and helpless to change it if needed. Just an opinion...and easy to suggest spending other people's $$. FWIW-

Stoker II here, too. Love it combined with Pit Pal app. Works inside my network and out - just gotta open a port on your broadband router and point it for outside access.

Well.... I was close to purchasing a Flame Boss.... But I have been putting the idea in my wifes brain for a few weeks about some type of temp controller for my anniversary gift. So I'm holding off to see if she purchased something. If so I'm hoping it's a flame boss so I don't have to return it and upset her.
