Smokeware cap popped off - is this common?

A buddy wanted to see how the flameboss works so I threw it on my large egg. I recently replaced the gasket, and added a smokeware cap. About 30 minutes later, POP! And the top of the cap popped off and hit the ground. Egg temp was 300.
Anyone have this happen?

Did you have a propane torch in it with an ignition switch? Run it for a bit then hit the go button?
As kids we used to leave gas grills on with the lid closed for a few minutes. Then duck down and hit the ignitiob switch.
Best case its a loud bang and the lid flips open. Worst case the lid disconnets completely.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

@RRP - then you don't want to know what we got into as kids! A neighbor reloaded his casings from shooting at the range. We had black powder & smokeless powder at our disposal in massive quantities! It's kinda fun filling a Coke can with black powder and stuffing it in a huge red ant mound and lighting the wick. What wasn't so nice was the sheer amount of flaming, pissed off ants that quickly moved in our direction!!!

BB Gun + duct tape + shotgun shell = fun!!I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

@daverichardson funny you mention that. we made the same sort of thing but lighting the wick was too dangerous, so we used model rocket ignitors. these days a kid and or their parents would probably go to jail for doing the same thing.Chicago, IL - Large and Small BGE - Weber Gasser and Kettle

Black powder & Estes model rockets=big boom

We made bottle rockets with Estes D engines, garden bamboo stakes and m-80's. Unfortunately the smoke trail points right back to where you're standing.LRW said:Black powder & Estes model rockets=big boomTHANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
