Seal a Meal?

For all the Sous Vide folks, has anyone tried a Seal a Meal?  Shopko has them this weekend for $30.  Seems like a pretty good price if they are any good.  Comments please, and thanks in advance.

Wow does that bring back a memory! I recall giving one of those units to my parents at least 40 years ago. I didn't even know they are still made. What kind of bags do they come with? The only thing about sous vide is the definition of sous vide which loosely translated mean "under vacuum". Does a Seal a Meal vacuum? I don't think it did.

OMG!  Haven't been to Shopko since I living in Nebraska. Liked them better than Wally World.

Everything is better than Wally World, including the waste tanks in the RVs out in the back of the parking lot.

Ron, it's a misnomer.  Since it's in a bag, usually, there is no negative pressure while the food is cooking in the water bath.  The vacuum is applied to remove the air for better heat transfer, but we all know you can do that in a bucket of water and no vacuum.

I love my sous vide almost as much as my egg and from what I can see on their website it looks just like other sealers. The bags look the same for dropping in hot water too (they also say you can simmer in the bag so should be safe.

    I've never tried SealaMeal though.

Next time I'm ordering bags it will be a roll.

Seal-a-Meal is just another brand of vac sealer. I was given one years ago and it's now at Mom's house so I can cook and freeze stuff for her when I visit. It uses the same bags as Foodsaver, Weston, etc. Mine is kind of a pain to insert the bag and to latch before sealing. Still works though, after many years. Was made by Rival. Don't know about now. I doubt mine was made in China.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!
