Hello all!
I am going to purchase a large egg. The package that my dealer offers includes a nest, mates, the ash tool, plate setter, electric starter, 22 lb bag of charcoal and a pizza stone. However, I already have two pizza stones (and a peel). He said I could substitute some other accessory/accessories for the pizza stone.
Any suggestions as to what you would make for a substitution if you were doing this? I mostly grill but want to start smoking.
Thanks!!!

If it is a BGE stone, it's likely better than the stones you have, for use on the egg
the pampered chef (thin) stones don't really handle real pizza temps very well, in the egg i mean.[social media disclaimer: irony and sarcasm may be used in some or all of user's posts; emoticon usage is intended to indicate moderately jocular social interaction; the comments toward users, their usernames, and the real people (living or dead) that they refer to are not intended to be adversarial in nature; those replying to this user are entering into a tacit agreement that they are real-life or social-media acquaintances and/or have agreed to or tacitly agreed to perpetrate occasional good-natured ribbing between and among themselves and others] -
I don't have the Pampered Chef stone - I have Emile Henry pizza stones that I have used on the old gas grill.... I figured they should continue to do well in the Egg?
-
that should work fine. grab some extra charcoal.
my advice is dont buy too many accessories until you find out you need them. for instance the grate lifter is lost on me. i just use my ash tool to hook it and lift a hot grate up. -
The BGEstones are refractory ceramic.
Some folks here are firing pizzas at much higher temps than gassers hit.
Just my recommendation.[social media disclaimer: irony and sarcasm may be used in some or all of user's posts; emoticon usage is intended to indicate moderately jocular social interaction; the comments toward users, their usernames, and the real people (living or dead) that they refer to are not intended to be adversarial in nature; those replying to this user are entering into a tacit agreement that they are real-life or social-media acquaintances and/or have agreed to or tacitly agreed to perpetrate occasional good-natured ribbing between and among themselves and others] -
Bienvenue and I'd see if they'll sub a spider for the stone.

I will have to check out what a spider is!

The spider is made by a different company. The salesman will look at you funny if you ask. (They won't know what a spider is but it is a great tool from the Ceramic Grill Store)jamberry said:I will have to check out what a spider is!"The pig is an amazing animal. Does your dealer carry the SmokeWare Stainless Steel Chimney Cap for Big Green Egg? I got one for Christmas and I haven't used my ceramic lid or daisy wheel since then. Get the flat cap too to help snuff out the fire better. I feel the cap is easier to control air flow better and I can get my XL to proper temp faster and it doesn't move much after it is set either.
Check this site out. http://smokeware.com/collections/chimney-caps

If they have some kind of extra grid or extender I think that is a useful accessory. The "folding grid extender" gets a bad rap but I have used it before and it worked fine. Another accessory I use often is the V-rack. I use it both inverted for ribs and for roasting.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Check out the kick ash basket. It makes discarding the used charcoal a breeze. I also recommend a dual probe wireless thermometer. I use it on both my egg and my gasser. It allows you to monitor the grate temperature as well as the meat. Two of my favorite tools.

Get a Maverick Thermometer if he has them.

As for the Emile Henry stone, @RRP has one and I don't recall hearing any negatives. Could have missed it of course.I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Yes - I have one and have never had an issue. The only hurdle I had was learning to work my peel around the two raised handles. Typically they are more expensive than a BGE brand stone, but I snagged mine at WOOT for 30 bucks.Carolina Q said:

I have the same one... never had an issue with it. I've fired the egg to 700 (and higher) and it hasn't been a problem yet.RRP said:
