You're welcome! Nice job of application - you get an A.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Nice neat job.Southeast Florida - LBGE
In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
I installed my rutland this weekend also. Mine was not quite that clean of a job, think I used too much permatex.
-
You can trim the excess Permatex after 24 hours using a sharp utility knife. In time it will fade in color. The only concern is if it oozed up excessively through the braid and now resides on the surface.GaBGE said:I installed my rutland this weekend also. I did exactly that Ron. Just waited the 24 and used a utility knife to get the excess. Comes off very clean and easy. Loved using a jigsaw blade to butter the sealant on. That really helped with the right amount. All your tips were dead on!RRP said:

I either read that tip in Ron notes or on his instructions on nakedwhiz. It was a great tip.kl8ton said:awwww man..... a jigsaw blade? I almost want to do my gasket over to try that!Grill4ULoving Life! -
RRP it did bleed through some but I wouldn't say excessively.

@bgeaddikt RRP sells them. Send him a pm and he will hook you up.

I used the first 2" of a 10" zip tie, the 2" was near the base (where you feed it through itself) it is stiff enough to butter the permatex evenly.rlnewman said:

So I take it with the Rutland yoy don't need a top gasket.
-
Correct - when applied in the time proven manner.Renegaderam said:So I take it with the Rutland yoy don't need a top gasket.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
I just squeezed the tube and used that to make it even while applying.

That method assures a uniform layer, but to clarify for people you did then spread or "buttered" that bead - didn't you?Toxarch said:I just squeezed the tube and used that to make it even while applying.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
I did a 700 degree clean burn... My Rutland stuck.Green egg, dead animal and alcohol. The "Boro".. TN

Sorry man but seeing the Rutland withstands 2,200 degrees then 700 degrees points toward that debris you showed recently on your gasket had to have liquified and then grabbed your dome. I'm not being defensive, but just trying to be helpful. OK?henapple said:I did a 700 degree clean burn... My Rutland stuck.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -

I didn't apply it in a large bead. I held the tube at an angle and worked it back and forth across the rim as I was squeezing it out. It was spread using the nozzle on the tube while it was being applied. I did not need to use any tool to spread it as that wouldn't have improved my application.RRP said:
