"Maytag Blue" cheese recall
RRP
Posts: 26,452
Maytag Dairy Farms has just issued a recall of their wonderful cheese sold between 11-24-15 and 3-1-16. There is a chance it was contaminated with listeria and could cause severe illness. It retails - at least here - for $18 a pound and if purchased at Kroger then Kroger is offering refunds for returned cheese. I probably would have just ignored it, but I knew my wife wouldn't touch it so I returned what I had left for an $8 refund. That keeps peace in the family!

I usually see food recalls after I have finished the food that's recalled.

Interesting you mention this. I tried to purchase some Maytag Bleu at Whole Foods a couple of weeks ago. Not sure who the manufacturer was.. They said their distributor has not had it for 2-3 months now. Something is certainly up? like you Ron, I'm the only one who eats it here......and like it that way.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

Maytag just happens to be a weakness on mine. I happen to have a full round in the refrigerator. Guess I need to check the production dates. Thank you for bringing the recall to our attention Ron.IL

Maytag is a great cheese with a solid reputation. I got hooked on it nearly 50 years ago in a quaint area in Iowa called the Amana Colonies. It is a premium bleu cheese product which demands a premium price.northGAcock said:Interesting you mention this. I tried to purchase some Maytag Bleu at Whole Foods a couple of weeks ago. A more specific identification of their cheese in the recall is:

Sorry - I just now saw your reply. The site that I posted has now been updated with all of the recall product numbers. What I posted were only the ones that Kroger had been selling.LetsEat said:Maytag just happens to be a weakness on mine. I happen to have a full round in the refrigerator.
