  • And you still will not have a Kobe brisket. You will have a wagu brisket instead.

Well what I ordered was an "American Kobe Wagyu Brisket 9-12". lets not get down to the definitions of each. They are on sale and I got one. Cant wait!

Well, Kobe is from the Kobe region of Japan. So no, you will not have Kobe. But you will have a breed that is derived from that same breed but then mixed with something we americans like better and end up with the most marbled beautiful brisket in the land!  It's great beef.

My only issue comes down to price. I can get a case of CAB Prime (6 briskets) for $20 more than I can get 2 14-16lb black briskets even with the sale. I know the black wagyu is better. But I'm not convinced it's that much better.

There's no reasonably priced prime grade briskets here in the Dirty South. The few local butchers that do have it  have prices that are close to SRF. Heck,  choice flats go for $8/lb at the local grocery store. The angus choice briskets at RD leave much to be desired. I stopped by RD four times and never left with a brisket because they all sucked.

If I could get prime on the cheap like the Texas crowd, I'm sure my opinion would change. (And I'd eat a lot more brisket!)

Which RD did you check out the briskets?  I just joined the KC BBQ in hopes of picking up some decent brisket.

The only place that even has choice packers here is Walmart. Everything else is select or just flats.

@chrisc133 I went to the RD in Marietta. I bought a couple a while back and trimmed 3+ lbs of hard fat off each of them. The ones there always have thin flats and are stiff as a board. Since packers are rare around here, I guess they get picked over quickly.

I don't shop at Walmart so that not an option for me.
