rutland gasket

So got a new egg and table last night, and finally going to put on my rutland.  Auto Zone here had "Permatex, Super high tack gasket sealant." I know he recommends Permatex Ultra Copper.  Do any of you know if what I have purchased will work?

Thanks

No idea. I do know that Ultra Copper does work. Ace Hardware has it. Though so did Auto Zone last time I looked.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Yes, the "he" you referred to still recommends the Permatex Ultra Copper! =)
Glad you found it. Surprisingly that product is easily found all around the world!

I know it's not rated for quite as high of temps as the copper, but I read that the red was rated as food safe.  I haven't used either and don't have a Rutland yet, but if that is a concern I thought I would pass it along

Mind giving me a link to that "food safe" claim? The company Technical Data sheets say nothing to that affect.

Ron,  I think the item you refer to is actually a lubricant.  Above it they list a High-Temp Red RTV Silicone Gasket.  NSF/ANSI 51 registered.  Item 81160 Temp range of -65º to 600º, 650º intermittent.

You got a new egg.... Use the gasket it came with. No need to change till it's needed.

Ya debated that.  But I heard they can be a pain to take off after they have been used.   My stock gasket on my other egg I never replaced and still works fine.  Figure I would do this one while it's easy.

I finally installed my Rutland today, after having it for over a year and the egg is 3, the factory gasket almost fell off after the clean burn. Hell it was so shot it didn't even resemble a gasket lol

Item 81160 was what I was originally referring to.  Again I haven't used it and am certainly not recommending it, as I am waiting until my original gasket fails before getting a Rutland.  I just thought some people might feel safer trying it since it was NSF certified.  I'm sure the copper holds better at higher temps

A Rutland gasket is not certified for use with food so I'm a bit puzzled why you would focus on just the adhesive used not being "NSF Approved".

So I let it cure for 24 hours. Taking the top stock gasket off now. The sticky residue under the felt feels like it's going to stick to my Rutland when I close the lid. Tried rubbing alcohol on it. Not working great. Any recommended products? Thanks

Edit * I've found that to remove the sticky residue under the felt, I can just roll my fingers on it and it rolls up.

sort of bassackwards. You should have cleaned the old off first. What I recommend is a 3M or knock off brand Rust & Paint Remover wheel chucked into a quarter inch drill. Then a pumice stone to remove the rest. I'm not one for using a chemical to remove the residue, but suit yourself.

I've seen concerns that the adhesive would give off some toxic fumes when exposed to high temps.  Again, I was just trying to be helpful to those that are apprehensive.  I am in no way recommending anything.

I feel like I must be typing in another language.  I don't know how many different ways to say I'm not recommending anything.  I simply saw something that might be of help.  I won't make that mistake again.
