Prep for tomorrow - Doing a Clean Burn --EGG DOME IS SWEATING - Do I have a problem?

Planing to do some ribs and chicken for tomorrow, so I decided to do a cleaning burn.  This is the first time I have done one since I got the eggs.  The XL interior had some build-up and a little fuzz growing in places.

The temp is coming up and I notice that the dome on the XL is sweating pretty damn good.  Has anyone ever encountered this before?

The Medium is up to temp, about 600 and looking good, but the XL is coming up slower with vents fully open and sweating like a hog.

Because of health issues, the eggs haven't been fired up since New Year's and we have had plenty of temp fluctuations from the mid 30s to the low 80s here in FL for the last month.  Plus there has been a crap load of rain.

Anyone have any ideas or experience with this sort of thing.

Thanks

  • No problems... As others while chime in quite common after a lay off and plenty of moisture.. I like your chirp "sweating like a hog"..

The sweat seems to have some color and odor to it.

    Meh

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

As others have assured you your egg's sweating is no sweat to you! My only recommendation is to use something like Simple Green to help you to clean that off while it is still warm and hasn't dried. If you don't wipe it off it will harden and be harder to clean.

Last time mine did that, it cooled and the next day, it rained. Clean as new and I never touched it.

Thank you all for the feedback.  Sweating seems to have run out and both eggs are sitting a little bit passed 700.  Had to add more fuel to the Med, guess I didn't put enough to begin with.  While I was at it I threw some more in the XL too.  It has been 2 hours and I am just going to let them go till they run out of fuel.

I really appreciate the knowledge here and the willingness to share.  Thanks for letting me know that I wasn't going to be shopping for new eggs anytime soon.

I plan to throw about 16lbs of baby backs on in the morning and then 10 pounds of chicken thighs to take to the family gathering for the Game.

First time I have felt like cooking in about 6 weeks.  Bad head cold turned into pneumonia.  Not severe enough for hospitalization, but enough to kick my ass to not want to do anything.  Feels good to feel good again.

Hope all of you have a great weekend and may your team win.  Me, I don't have a fav, just want a good game and a great time with family.  What more could a guy ask for?
