My very cold and lonely egg...after the storm

We got between 28" and 30" in my neck of the Maryland 'burbs (Rockville).  I am still alive after shoveling out the sidewalks and driveway on my corner house.  But egging may have to wait until either (a) I recover, or (b) melting   =)

That's a lot of white stuff.

When all was said and done, I had about 2 1/2 inches with some 3 inch drifts. Seriously.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I can count on one hand the number of times I have even SEEN snow. And I went to it, all but one of those times. I have seen sleet a few times too.  I can't imagine trying to work in that. I'm shivering just looking at those pictures.

We have not had much snow in the Midwest this year. I definitely feel for you guys out there. It sure looks beautiful from here but I am sure its also a pain in the arse. Heat that egg up and melt the snow away.

I had to make fun of my neighbor due to something similar. I was walking by his house with my shovels to do the front stoop. He was standing in the door holding a beer while his wife was shoveling out front. I said "what's wrong with this picture" and he quickly retorted "I'm having shoulder surgery next week!". Then his wife dropped this bomb: "it's not like that matters anyway. I'm from Buffalo".

    Touché ma'am, touché.

Don't be sorry. Snow is the best. A LOT of snow is even better.

How was the riding? My buddy got snowed in at whitetail and said it was almost too much snow, he said his back foot is going to be sore all well. Oh and whitetail closed at 4pm on Saturday! Too much snow for the ski resort =)

Good, but tiring when you don't have your powder board. It was nice that the snow stayed light and powdery. Heavy, wet snow es no bueno.

You have my sympathy. I went thru the blizzard of '78 in South Bend, IN, close to 40" in about 32 hours, on top of about a foot. Took me a full day just to dig a path to the street,  Could not open the front door, but was able to go out the back, and clear a small path. Took my wife 2 hours to get to the only open grocery just 2 blocks away. She had to swim thru maybe 250' of snow.

The only other place open was a working man's bar that opened at 7 am, right after the graveyard shift ended. That was just when the heavy stuff started. It became emergency central. They had a package store that no one ever used. After day three, it was cleared out. I got the last bottle of Port wine. In the event of blizzard, have that on hand, I learned.

    Likewise, beans, rice & butter.

    shame on you  ;)

Brings back fond memory of South Bend, one of our kids spent a semester at Notre Dame on an exchange programme, dropped her off in the summer and picked her up just before Christmas, that was over a decade ago. Beautiful campus, oh and Touchdown Jesus! During the winter drive it was snowing lightly but steadily both ways, couldn't believe how many cars we saw ended up in the ditch along the Interstates!

ND almost never shuts down. The 78' blizzard closed the campus. The fellow who was supposed to manage such things slept in, and didn't stop folks from coming in to work, where a few were trapped for several days. The county was only reachable by helicopter for awhile.

(BTW, ND has been going thru a massive building program. If your daughter happens to visit, she might be astonished.)

South Bend is in the "Lake Effect" shadow. Sudden bands of snow precipitating off the lake often make white out conditions. Not as bad as closer to the lake, but bad enough that a few mile drive can have minutes of complete panic, can't even see 300' ahead.

Well, it was no bed of roses here in Florida either. It took me a whole 20 minutes to vacuum up this deluge with my lawn tractor:
I'll telling you the winds were that fierce.
