Freeballing Pigs
No, really. That's the right title.
You may have to join Medium to read this, but it's worth a read if you're interested in some aspects of how pigs are raised, specifically male pigs, and how one farmer (rancher?) is trying to leave them boys where they are.

No need to join, I read se of it... Stopped reading when it said "pigs do fee the pain of castration" ... Well i can already see where that crap is going... Who cares if the pigs fee the pain... How do they few when you cut their brothers head off when they are next in line...

Selective breeding? Better pork? I'm not from PETA, I'm not an animal rights activist, I thought it was cool this guy engineered his way around the issue and came up with a better quality pork product.

Interesting read, although I'm not sure everyone will agree with this:
Besides, boars look like body-builders: They grow faster and are about 10 percent more efficient than barrows at turning feed into meat. Barrows are fattier. And in the end, customers want meat, not fat.
