New need advice

I just got a large egg for Christmas, probably best present ever! I have done ribs, wings and a london broil so far, AMAZING. What is the best recommended accessory for cooking multiple items at once? (brisket, ribs, butt) Also are there any other must haves for the BGE? As of now the only thing extra I have is the plate setter. Look forward to becoming a part of this community.

The best accessory for me is the thermapen. After that and for cooking on multiple levels look into an adjustable rig from the ceramic grill store.

Is the woo2 a good one?

Yes but if you want multiple level capability you need the whole setup.

A friend I know has the woo2. Why do you recommend adjustable rig over the woo? Want to get the best one so I don't waste my money. I do mostly ribs, butts, brisket and wings

Bite the bullet and buy yourself a small/mini/MMax to go along with the large.    Can't say enough about how they compliment each other.

I third the motion. I use my woo to mainly hold my deflector stone. You'll find the need for both the woo and the AR. You're going to end up getting them both anyway. Might as well save some cash on the combo. Best of luck brother.

For me it's about flexibility- you have a lot more setup options with the adjustable rig.  Multiple cooking grids, slide out rack for ribs, etc.

i would give Tom a call- he will listen to what you cook and give you a personalized recommendation.

    Yes!

I use it for raised direct and indirect w/ the platesetter. Easy in an out with the platesetter. Ribs, Butt, Chicken, on and on.

The things I use most would be the Thermapen and a cast iron skillet

And a MiniMax as Braggart said:

My recommendation would be to get an AR from CGS. If you live in the NOVA area you can drive out to Dizzy Pig in Manassas. They have pretty much any accessory you can think of. They also run cooking classes but they are a bit pricey.

After you've purchased a fast reading thermometer, consider buying Ceramic Grill Store's PSWoo2.  You already have the plate setter, so at $50, plus shipping cost, the Woo is not a major purchase like the AR.  The Woo will add raised direct to you grill configuration possibilities without having to create a MacGyver solution.  It will also made the plate setter easier and safer to handle when cooking raised indirect.

Having invested minimally, cook with the Woo for six months or so.  By that time you will have become more knowledgeable about what you and your family like off the egg.  Then you can make an informed decision on purchasing, or not purchasing, an AR ... and if you decide to purchase one, then you'll understand better what configuration will best fit your style of cooking.

The Woo also has some additions that add versatility ... the spider and a CI grill (or CI pan) for reverse searing of steaks, the spider and a Wok for stir fry, the extender and D-grill for above-the-felt-line cooks.

I have a large egg with the PSWoo2 and all the extras and I have a secondd large egg with the AR and all most all the extras including an extender and D-grill.  I use the Woo equipped egg 90% of the time ... I like simple solutions.

Either way you decide, do buy a couple (14" and 16") of Tom's stainless steel drip pans to use with the plate setter.  If you only want one, Tom recommends the 16" and I like the 14" best.  That's the main trouble with stuff from CGS, there's no "perfect" choice.

Lots of options-the easiest out of the gate is get a second grid (weber has one 17" in diameter) and either three empty beer cans or some fire bricks for support and go from there.
That said, if you want a more permanent set-up then here's another endorsement for the PSWoo2 and extender.  Here's the link: http://ceramicgrillstore.com/platesetter-pswoo/ As above, enables you to use the platesetter and go indirect or direct at the gasket level.  With the extender and D-grid you get two level cooking.  The second level is a fixed height about 4+" above the gasket.
And welcome aboard and enjoy the journey.

While reading @lousubcap's post, I noticed the last sentence of my post (and all the typos above it ... geez.)  Please don't read any negativity into that sentence.  Buying from CGS is a little like visiting the candy store when you were a kid.  The options are a little overwhelming ... maybe even a lot overwhelming. There's something there for everyone ... you just have to figure out what will work most efficiently for you.  Or, call up Tom and ask for the "I can't decide, so sell me one of everything" special.

I agree with @lousubcap with one small change.  I would get a PS Woo2 and the 17" weber grid now.

I use this combo on my XL.  Works great for the occasional times I want two levels.  Much cheaper than the AR.  Not as nifty for sure, but it is about $200 less.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.
