Not from up there....but from a southerners point of view......Figure out how to stay warm. Every time I have passed through there it has been snowing and raw cold. All the best with your new job.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

@northGAcock I know. I am from Arizona so I am going to try not to freeze my butt off.
I'm hoping to find some good seafood. Never really been to the east coast so it will be an experience for sure.

You like to play poker? Foxwoods (second biggest poker room in the country) is about an hour away. Insane number of slot machines if you are into that. I only go there to play poker though.Winnipeg, Canada

Hartford is in the middle of the state and ~1 hour from the coast.
Great seafood can be found at the Rowaton Seafood Restaurant but that is ~ 1.5 hours away from Hartford.
I work down in Greenwich, CT but that is a hike from Hartford as well.

I'm originally from Hartford (Wethersfield). In Hartford proper, the Mark Twain house is a great spot for history. My small town just south of the city has a nice "Old Wethersfield" area. The town was settled in 1634 - some structures remain. See the warehouse on the old cove. Gillette Castle in East Haddam (further south) is a really cool spot. And as others have said, the coast (really just 30 minutes) has great spots. Old Saybrook - try Mystic, too. That's more like 45 minutes, but the seaport and aquarium are great.Lovin' my Large Egg since May 2012 (Richmond, VA) ... and makin' cookbooks at https://FamilyCookbookProject.com

there are plenty of others. As for things to do, you can catch a college basketball game maybe of UConn, springfield MA (basketball HOF), if you like to ski - not too far from some mountains, and the casinos (Mohegan & Foxwoods) aren't too far away.

I was in Hartford for a business trip about a year ago. The hotel recommended bears smokehouse. It was some of the best bbq I've had which was suprising being in Hartford CT.Parker, Colorado
