Mrs. Daisy was in bad shape...holes were filled with grease etc. After a steak cook I threw her in there for a cleaing. She came out looking very clean but now after a few days she is extremely rusty. Should I have sprayed her with WD or something similiar? Can I nuke her again and get the rust off? She works the same but damn she is ugly. Any suggestions?[p]Scribs

  • Scribs,
same thing happened to me. ... through the grungy daisies into the fire, and not only did all the grease burn off, so did the black paint. ... now, after a few lo and slows, they are getting 'seasoned' from the greasy smoke. ..i just don't worry about it and keep on going. .. .you could go ahead and rub yours up with some crisco or vegetable oil, and then put them on a pan in a 300 degree egg for a little while to season if you want to. ..but it sure is nice how the tops spin freely for the first time in a while. .

    Scribs,
I wouldn't put anything on Miss Daisy that you wouldn't want on your food. I'd use vegetable oil. Who knows....[p]TNW

    Scribs,
Do as Max suggests regarding the vegetable oil and oven treatment. I always put my daisy wheel inside the egg after cooking......keeps it from rusting.

    egret,
I also put my daisy in the egg after each cook. No rust. stays clean and freely spinning. Its like seasoning castiron each time with the grease that comes off the food.

    Scribs,
sounds like I'm going to be the only Felix in the group but after I burnt mine (the one and only time) it rusted like yours. Personally I don't like the rust look, nor the grung one either, so I primed mine with high temp primer and then flat black BBQ hi-temp spray paint. Came out looking new! Now when she gets dirty (every 12 to 18 months)I bathe her overnight in household ammonia and rinse in the morning and she still looks good!

Photo Egg, I will use a tee to clean the grooves when I need the ball to spin. Other than that, I use the bottom of my golf shoe to keep the club face clean! I do clean the grips maybe twice a year. The last time I looked, the putter shaft had a hint of rust.....[p]tom[p][p]

Sandbagger,[p]I'd think by now you'd have designed a replacement out of stainless steel! :)

    Sandbagger,
You are living life, not just planning the trip.
We should meet half way and play golf some time.

I would clean as best you can with steel wool, wire brush w etc. Then treat it as you would a cast iron pan.Rub lightly with oil and season it.
