    Any thoughts of Italian porcelain tile? Mine's been down for 15 years and looks fine. One tile has a spider crack, but we've been happy with it.  :)

As they were green, they matched the egg, to hell with how the Primo felt. 


    4 mm is less than 1/8th inch.

    4mm is .15748 inches, just over 1/8'' thick

    Did you not take arithmetic in school? In my world we call 1mm 40 thou. An eighth of an inch is 125 thou. Everyone knows that 4 x 40 is 120 which is less than 125 therefore......oops, nevermind

    I still wouldn't trust any countertop material that's only 1/8" thick, I don't care what it's laminated to.

    Great choice of colours, range hood and back splash tiles @DoubleEgger ;)

    We renovated our 20+ year old postage stamp kitchen three years ago, only regrets was not changing the floor tiles (wanted minimum interruption at the time, duh!). Went with synthetic quartz. Single bowl sink and removal of peninsula were game changers.

    btw, if anyone is in the market for a kitchen sink, check out the Kraus line at Amazon. What I like:
    1) competitive price
    2) 16 gauge steel
    3) rounded corners for easy cleaning

    Pretty sure we got the coolest sink ever. It has built in grooves for the cutting board and strainer that it comes with. Can cut and season meat right over the sink with no mess to clean up.

    2 spatch cleaned and seasoned on the sink cutting board. Really handy. The motion sense faucet is pretty nice also.

    @Lit  I wanted that sink for those exact reasons but the wife want white so went with the fire clay. The motion faucets are nice but went with a traditional as a "cost cutter".

    We also have two soap dispensers and an air switch for the garbage disposal. Love the air switch.

    I hear ya kitchens break the bank. I am still finishing up ours in stages. Never knew they made backslash that's $15 a foot or how it's $100 per tub of grout that only covers 15 sq ft.

    Glad I waited and didn't get new counters in my house when the wife wanted them.  I still have Formica, with well- finished wood trimming around the edges. It seems very durable and it looks great to me.  Will probably outlast me, at which point the wife can get her granite or soapstone. Lol

    these new manmade materials just look too clean to me, which means they show up every spec of dust and grime =) ill take the messy looking granite that hides all  that.  what would look best with the blue 1950's installed indoor/outdoor carpeting in my kitchen =)  my kitchen looks worse than my egg

    Agree.  That's what we used for the black/grey portion of our back splash.  We used artisan stone tiles as accent pieces.  That sheet is expensive.

    We went with a metal/glass back splash. I took all the plugs/switches out and moved them to under cabinet style so there are no breaks in the backsplash.

    It's the legrand adorne under cabinet collection. There are all kinds of setups that include lights and apple docks with speakers etc. They are made to connect but I just used them for outlets and switches. I ordered all our stuff before I really did the research I should have and I wasted some money. All the power strips over 10" you have to order a seperate direct wire module which is an extra $40 per socket. The 10" strip only has 1 plug but you direct wire it. Also the single gang box isn't much bigger than the strip and you can get multiple options that slide into the single gang like the pop out plug that goes back flush when you aren't using it. The single gang box I have in the pic below has 2 half gang flip switches for our garbage disposal and sink light. In the other pic you can see the double power strip you can change out the modules from plugs to USBs and I am pretty sure they have little push lights as well. They were simple to install I just extended the wiring up from the box and covered the box. Not to code but they are taped and wire nutted so it's safe and took maybe 20 minutes to install. http://www.legrand.us/adorne/products/under-cabinet-lighting-power.aspx

    I have been reading this thread hoping to get some ideas for a countertop in the grilling shed I'm hoping to add on to my old meat house out back.  These tops you folks have look fantastic, but they're WAY past this old farmers budget.  Doesn't anyone have a good, useful suggestion that's relatively inexpensive?  Afterall, I still need to buy an XL to go with my M.

    You could always go with concrete tops with epoxy to get whatever color/design you want.  Fairly cheaper than these suggestions.  I have also seen regular pressed wood top with vinyl design and then a layer of clear epoxy to seal and harden it.
