I couldn't help myself when I ran across some on sale and then others I just wanted to try and "had to have." I've never had any of the Meat Church ones but I have all 7 now. Love John Henry's and my Memphis locals though. Which have you all had and what're they good on? I did use the plowboy's yardbird on chicken wings this weekend and they turned out awesome. Also that Head County sauce is amazing.

Let's hear your top 3. I've been wanting to try some new rubs.

so if you had to reduce your whole stash to 3, what would they be?

Oak Ridge is my goto brand.  I have some John Henry's Mojave Garlic I'm dying to try.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

  • John Henry's pecan because I've used it on chicken and ribs and have been pleased with it. Then 901Q. And just trying them out the honey hog hot seems to be a winner.

Meat church holly cow is amazing on any red meat. Can be over powering so use it sparingly.

If I only had 3 rubs. I would get Oakridge secret weapon, Dizzy pig Cowlick and Big Poppa Smokers Money rub.  I can make anything else I need.

Any comments on Plowboy or DP IPA?  I've been wanting to try both.

Any road will take you there if you don't know where you're going.

  • I ordered from meatchurch.com. 60$ shipped for all 7, heck of a deal.

That plowboy was awesome on wings smoked indirect at 250 for 3hrs. The IPA is an odd one but I'm excited to try it out on some wings. And yes it's hoppy haha.

Ploybow Yardbird is a must for chicken.  Great base rub also if you want to add spice to it.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

I love all the Central rubs.  The Jerk chicken is excellent.  Was back down there 2 summers ago and bought $200 worth of rubs and sauces.  Had a friend come visit a couple weeks ago who lives in Memphis and had her bring back $125 worth of rubs and sauces.

Don't ever remember seeing the 901 rub when I lived there.  Is that from a restaurant?

  • One of my new favorites is called Garlic Unleashed.  It's absolutely fantastic on chicken, beef, whatever...  Haven't tried any of their other rubs yet, but plan to soon.

I tried the Oak Ridge sampler pack and the only one I really cared for was Secret Weapon.  Got my eye on the Dizzy Pig sampler next.

  • Living here now, I bought the central bbq seasoning (rub) and the rendevous rub. I prefer the rendevous because it is ALMOST saltless so you can use it to season stuff or you can use it as a rub after a dry brine. More versatile. On the other hand, i've just tried an oakridge bbq sampler pack and i'm sold! Just picked up a larger back of the secret weapon, carne crosta, and the habanero death dust! If you do go to central to buy stuff, pick up some of their sweet heat bbq sauce. It's pretty spicy and has a sweet and tangy flavor. It's my favorite.

no the guy at the bbq supply told me that it was from some bbq team and it won a few awards. 901 is the area code here so that's where that comes from.

I've ordered a sweet bourbon glaze from all spiced up before. It is thick like syrup and is great on ham. Next time you order pick up some!

Wow that's a lot of rub.  You've got a lot of cooking to do in your future to use those up!
I can't get away from Meat Church Rubs.  Holy Cow, Honey Hog and Honey Hog Hot have become staples at my home.  Love them and my cooks with them.

  • Plowboys yardbird is my favorite all-around rub. I know its supposedly for chicken but its awesome on pork butts or ribs.

After the last Elfster Rub Exchange I've only purchased Meat Church Rubs to replace one's I've went through. I bet I have 2 closets full of rubsl & sauces plus my tote I take to demo or when we tailgate or take little trips. I'm still a stick to the basics kinda guy....Coarse Kosher and Fresh Cracked Peppercorn and finishing butter (depending on what's getting cooked).

I've been using Oakridge Rubs. My recent order should be here tomorrow. I added a couple of different rubs to this order. I thought Dizzy Dust was also good; my go to for fried eggs. I tried Tasty Licks but in my opinion they contained too much salt; I'd rather control the salt content.

My spice cabinet has become my spice blend cabinet. @johnnyp has bought practically every Meat Church, Dizzy Pig, and Lane's BBQ rub there is. We haven't tried the Lane's yet but the others are fantastic. As far as comparisons go, in my opinion...
Meat Church Holy Cow trumps any Dizzy Pig steak rub (Red Eye Express and Cowlick).
BUT Dizzy Pig Fajitaish trumps Meat Church Dia De La Fajita.

Dizzy Pig's Mediterraneanish is one of my favorites for boneless skinless chicken and for spatchcock or whole chickens I like Dizzy Pig Shaking The Tree or Raging River and Meat Church's Honey Hog.

I will add my two cents in for wings. The Dizzy Pig Ghost is awesome. I love hot wings. The hotter the better but more than that just because there hot does not mean they can't have flavor. Ghost has some heat but a great flavor too. Stands up to sauce if you put any on your wings.
