Lump Charcoal - How small is too small

I have about a fourth of a bag of BGE lump that is the the size of large pea gravel. Just bought a bag of Royal Oak and shocked at how much larger the chunks are - and much less expensive. Here's my question, should I just throw the bottom of the BGE bag away or can I add it to the top of the larger RO lump and not worry about it filtering down and clogging the vent holes? Thanks!
One large BGE in Louisville, KY.

i use those up in the mini, small pieces that clog the lower grate are actually great for holding temps under 170 dome for smoking jerky. if im going to do a jerky cook i save them up

I've posted a couple times about being frustrated with the pea gravel size lump from Royal Oak. Ordered 5 bags of Rockwood from Firecraft and tried it out this weekend on a couple of butts. No turning back for me.

That's odd. Maybe your dealer isn't very careful handling the BGE bags? Big Green Egg is bagged under Royal Oak. Same exact lump but costs more for the bag to say BGE on it. It's strange that it's a big size difference as both are Royal Oak"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

Yeah, Weber Who, I saw that about RO making BGE lump. I'm thinking the BGE bags get a lot more shipping wear on them going from the factory to BGE to the dealers...Anyway, I'll never buy another bag of BGEOne large BGE in Louisville, KY.

Use it, it will work fine.LBGE (still waitin' for my free T-Shirt), DIgiQ DX2 (In Blue, cause it's the fastest), Heavy Duty Kick Ash Basket, Mc Farland, WI.

If it wasn't for my BGE I'd have no use for my backyard...
