Anyone ever seen garlic cloves this big? I was passing through Gilroy CA last weekend, self proclaimed Garlic Capitol of the World! I am inclined to believe them after witnessing these beauties !!

Elephant garlic? What it looks like to me.

could you show one peeled , next to a quarter for scale? That would be great.Like, next time you cook or something, I'm curious what , if any difference it is in consistency , or color. I live 45 mins from Gilroy, and I've
never seen them that big!

These "look" like shallots due to the purple hue. ?? Or, as others have suggested, Elephant Garlic.

Yes....but haven't cooked with yet. Was curious how it cooks when you roast it or sauté etc.HeavyG said:

Regular garlic is more robust and aromatic vs elephant which tends to be sweeter. I've used both but, there is definitely a huge difference. It would be like substituting shallots for garlic. But, you've got it so use it and see how you like it.

It's closer to a leek than garlic, but tastes more like garlic than a leek. But milder.

It's elephant garlic. I bought some in the supermarket and planted a few cloves. The flavor doesn't match up to the size.- Jamaican living in rural Western Washington

Elephant garlic definitely doesn't have the punch of regular garlic.Living the good life smoking and joking

It is not as strong as others said, but what is nice is that you do not have to peel as many cloves. Roast it and use it as a spread on bread, as long as you do not go too hot or long, it is perfect for that.--------------------------------------------------
