Need pepper grinder for grinding LOTS of pepper

I think having a little coffee in with pepper would add a nice "touch" to a good rub. Maybe run one batch through to make a coffee rub to clean it out.Carolina Q said:I've had that same Cuisinart DBM-8 grinder for several years, though I no longer use it. Just got tired of the bother. Never tried it for pepper though. Anyway, I just dragged it out to see how difficult it would be to disassemble and clean it well enough so I could switch between coffee and pepper if I wanted to.
The hopper easily unscrews and is removable. The two metal grinder halves appear to be attached with a few screws. I didn't try to remove them as they cleaned up fairly well with a brush. It's hard to tell if you could get it clean enough to grind both coffee and spices though. Maybe. This was easy enough, but I wouldn't mess with further disassembly.
One thing I noticed was that the chute where the coffee enters the grind chamber after being ground was nearly half clogged. As the coffee grinds, even at a medium grind, it creates some "fines" that stick to whatever they hit. Just remove the grind chamber and clean the chute with a toothpick. I had never noticed it before.------------------------------

If you really need to grind a LOT of pepper get one of these: http://grainmaker.com/products/grainmaker-grain-mill-model-no-116/
Go BIG or go home!
Actually, most grain mills should be able to grind pepper to a consistent size so if you really do want to do LOTS of pepper look at some of the grain mills available (you can get one for much less than a grand

I wonder if I could use it.. I never thought about it. I use it for flour (just started actually, only made a few loaves so far) But really I'm mostly only doing a 1/4lb at a time. Enough to make a pound of my rub.XL, Small, Mini & Mini Max Green Egg, Shirley Fab Trailer, 6 gal and 2.5 gal Cajun Fryers, BlueStar 60" Range, 48" Lonestar Grillz Santa Maria, Alto Shaam 1200s, Gozney Dome, Gateway 55g Drum -

Having coffee in your pepper might be fine. Having pepper in your coffee? Perhaps not so much.tarheelmatt said:I think having a little coffee in with pepper would add a nice "touch" to a good rub. Maybe run one batch through to make a coffee rub to clean it out.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

That one should be able to grind pepper. Dried black peppercorns don't have a lot of oil so they should be fine.Thatgrimguy said:

I also have the KitchenAid grain mill attachment. It is designed for dry grains with low oil content. They say not to grind coffee in it. Oil content of peppercorns may be low enough.Thatgrimguy said:

In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
We have a coffee grinder dedicated to nothing but spices. You can find them quite inexpensively. We have a pepper blend that we use that is pretty dang good. (white, green, pink, black, and some mustard seed)

Let me know how the burr grinder works out. I have one I rarely use for coffee anymore.They/Them

any thoughts from the peanut gallery about a personal pepper mill or rasp for non mass quantity usage which just kicks out a lot of pepper for salads or steak? I have burned thru the battery operated one and others I have owned either dont give you enough oomph per crank, or the setting of fineness is a catastrophe-Proud resident of Missoula, MThttps://www.facebook.com/GrillingMontanahttp://grillingmontana.com

We buy big containers of peppercorns and have 2 salt / 2 pepper dishes on the counter all the time. When we need more, we grind a dish full then sprinkle as necessary. -
I've got a couple Peugeot mills that I have had for decades but I got this little thing a few months ago and really like it: http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Good-Grips-Pepper-Mill/dp/B003L0OOQM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449801555&sr=8-1&keywords=oxo+pepper+millallsid said:any thoughts from the peanut gallery about a personal pepper mill or rasp for non mass quantity usage which just kicks out a lot of pepper for salads or steak? I'm pretty impressed with it, especially considering the price. I like that it doesn't have a huge capacity and a clear window so I can see what blend is in it so I can change it out quickly.
I also like the snap on cap on the bottom. If I want to grind a teaspoon or two I just leave that cap on and give it a few whirls and pop the cap off and it has all that pepper which I can then pour and measure.
I bought it mainly to keep in my prep table outside but I bring it in so often I really need to bet another one.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk -
