So, the original thread can be located here :

The below post is the original on how my free mini egg looked.
Here is the new and improved LSU mini.

I used high temp engine paint for the exterior finish, JB weld for the exterior cracked seams, and on the interior gave the whole thing a nice layer of castable refractory cement.
For free and a few supplies, it ain't half bad!

apinion said:I browse C: frequently throughout the night at work. I caught a post 2 hours in for a brand new mini, but broken. "Shattered" at the guy stated in the ad.
So, I went and picked it up with hopes for the best. It was in 2 BGE boxes. One with the egg and the other with the assembly hardware.
Please see the pics below. Any suggestions on what road to take? JB weld and paint? Just use the hardware? Throw it off a bridge?
It was free....so worse case scenario I have a new thermometer and a new grate to go along with things.

Strong work! What paint did you use. VHT? Duplicolor?
Any prep?
Thought about giving my older egg a facelift with navy/orange.
WileECoyote on the old forum, painted his gold. Thought it was cool. Wonder how his paint is holding up through the years?BrandonQuad Cities

I sanded it with 80 grit paper using a dewalt orbital sander, but honestly it didn't take down any of the glaze, just the uneven JB weld.
I used this paint http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00295T6V8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00
It seems to be pretty durable. I followed the can instructions for 2 thin coats and then a wet coat. I couldn't be happier with it.Louisianian by birth, Louisianian by death. Austinite for now... -
Thanks. And again, nice work man.BrandonQuad Cities

Wow, amazing to know that this is possible. Curiosity to see how it holds up! Keep us updated on durability!

No problem. Thanks for the feedback. I'm really excited to have finally been able to complete the project. If anyone ever has any specific questions, please ask. I want others to know its possible to fix these eggs, especially if you have spare parts from a warranty or something similar.Louisianian by birth, Louisianian by death. Austinite for now...
