I'm looking for a nice big cutting board like 24"x24" don't care about exact demisions. I don't know a lot about what materials or brands are better than others so I thought I'd get yalls take on it.

I like a really solid and thick wood board...check out Boos. But I also have a Concave Cutting Board on my Christmas list too... http://concavecuttingboard.com/

Edge glued boards are the easiest on your knives. As to what species of wood to use, go with aesthetics.

Have had this Boos about 40 years.

Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd. -
end grain and maple, stay away from bamboo

The comcaves are really cool! I love how that pool the juice to the center of the board.cmac610 said:I like a really solid and thick wood board...check out Boos. But I also have a Concave Cutting Board on my Christmas list too... http://concavecuttingboard.com/ -
I haven't received it yet, but this is a reasonably priced board with good reviews.

I use a plastic one that I got from walmart. Much easier than cleaning a wooden one. Then again... I've never had a decent wooden one

i just dont find them as forgiving as a maple end grain, they look and hold up nice but the maple is just nicer on the blade. my boos block is 27x48 x 4 inch thick, i couldnt be happier with that boardnolaegghead said:@fishlessman - what's wrong with bamboo cutting boards?

I agree with you there. You're light years ahead if you use end grain wood boards insofar as not dulling your blade. Some species of wood, and there's even variance between where it grows, will have different amounts of silica, which dulls blades more than the hardness of the wood.fishlessman said:

I own two incredible boards
one is John Boo. American black walnut.
if you want one I know a company in SC that has them much cheaper than Boo website. Where I ordered and they shipped
The second I own a local guy made. End grain, cool design. Very happy with. And crazy cheap for quality. He just does for fun and he said he just does to basically break even.Boom -
