Where do you put your grill grates?

Where do you put your greasy grill grates when filling up the egg with charcoal? I use old cardboard boxes to lay the grate on. I'm sure there is a better way.

I have the above racks, but also like my grid lifter for this reason.

I have a couple of Grate Racks, and added a table to my old Weber, now storage device:

@grndr420 Green Dr.420? I like you already. Welcome aboard.
Seems nobody talks about "dirty landing counters". I have a cooking patio that is shared between my cookers and my table saw. The table saw is covered with galvanized sheet metal, and this is where all the dirty / hot stuff lands. Otherwise my outdoor cooking counters are corian.

I use my Weber kettle as a landing pad for my plate setter and grate.Living the good life smoking and joking

I've got a weber kettle that I've never even cooked on. It is where I light and store my chimney starter and supplies.SmokingPiney said:I use my Weber kettle as a landing pad for my plate setter and grate.Phoenix -
@DoubleEgger will that hold a plate setter or pizza stone?

Yes bothGaBGE said:@DoubleEgger will that hold a plate setter or pizza stone? -
I have both the Grate Rack and the Grid Lifter, but more often than not my grate lands on a glazed terra-cotta pot that I bought at the grocery store, end-of-season, for $15. Hot daisy wheels and Small grids get set down inside, too.

I call this my "staging table" made for the very purpose of where to place a hot grate. Being metal covering wood it won't burn and is easy to clean. The real advantage is being able to work with my food such as flipping multiple wings etc without leaving my dome open thus letting the fire get out of control!

Thanks! I used to get frustrated leaving my dome open while working with multiple items and this solves that issue. BTW that's merely aluminum flashing bent over a frame of wood with a solid wood piece under that top to make it stable.bgebrent said:^^^^^ that's very cool!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
@RRP - Ron, I think I am going to build something like this! Great idea!

Thanks! Just be sure to use metal drawer pulls at the front so that you have a stop to push against like this:DaveRichardson said:@RRP - Ron, I think I am going to build something like this! Great idea!

I use an Alera 3-Tier Wire Rolling Cart that I got at COSTCO. It's 16"x24" so the grates overhang the side a little, but a HOT grate doesn't hurt it. And there's storage space for other gizmos & tools.

@RRP that is cool, you sir, have all the answers and great ideas. Thanks for sharing.
