just got my second egg (medium) after many, many months of careful saving: after getting it home, I discovered the hinge in the back of the unit has just one (lift spring?) located on the right side and doesn't have a spring on the left, even though there is a slot to accommodate one. Calling the dealer, he said that is the way Medium Eggs are built, with one spring. Is this accurate? If so, it seems a little cheesy. Has BGE gotten cheep on its loyal customers?

That's correct, only one.
Weight does not need 2 springs on medium.
Does it open fine? Ease up a little buddy.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
I think that's how it comes, I guess you could add one more?

I have 2 meds. The oldest is now 8 yrs, maybe more. Sitting outside in all weather, springs are still taut.
From what I've seen on very old forum posts, Eggs didn't even have 1 spring at first. Just hinges and a prop to keep the hinges from folding.

Use the Medium and enjoy it! What size egg are you adding it to? I have a L and MM and debating XL or M1 XL , 1 LBGE , 1MM a very tolerant hubby and 2 hungry teenage boys with a lot of friends. I Love playin' with charcoal and sippin' Bourbon in Fenton, MI. Live Large!

Awrite den, I'm still loyal to the BGE famn damily fo sho. Just checkin' with my peeps. Anyhoo, my other Egg is an XL, which I love more than beer, which is saying a lot. My only regret is that I didn't get one earlier. Peace

And thanks too all for such quick and timely responses

Ok I have the answer to your question! here is a picture of my business partners medium egg that he purchased used 6 years ago and can you believe it only has one hinge! So in no way has BGE gone cheep on us. Love that new Egg and enjoy.
I'm only hungry when I'm awake!

I have a Med and a XL at home in CT. I love the combo! Only one spring on the Medium and 2 years with no issues. BTW, a WOO2 is essential for the medium so you can make killer Spatchcock chickens.XL BGE; Medium BGE; L BGE

For sure, got a woo for the XL (has a slight wobble in it) and I've got woo in transit for the Medium, I agree, they are essential options. Planning on getting the new egg back on the cart by this weekend and taking it for a spin, good times
