What is the name of the two pieces of angled metal that goes in the fire ring to section off the lump to one area. I wish I could describe them better.
-Thanks in advance.

Weber calls them char baskets. http://www.walmart.com/ip/10909629?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227022674354&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=t&wl3=40471223552&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=68853295403&veh=semJoe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

Thanks everyone for the speedy responses! -
I got the weber char things, removed the curved pieces, and they work brilliantly
You can slide the 2 L-shaped pieces around in many different ways to configure the size of your direct & indirect spaces to your needs. The ends are angled up like the side walls of the firebox so they keep the charcoal from slipping out. I think I paid $18 for them.XL BGE Owner Since September 2015 - So expect a lot of newbie questions and please go easy on me :-) -
My local welding shop gave me this piece of expanded metal, 4" x 48" free. I wrapped it in a 12" circle and spot welded it with my MIG. Cost = $0.0.
Use it on all my "weekday" cooks on the XL. Very efficient with the lump. Seems to let air thru very efficiently and easy to get to temp. Perfect for direct cooks and pizzas too, as the fire is pretty concentrated to just above the lump. I move it around on the fire grate the day after, and all the ashes and small pieces fall thru the 3/4" holes. It's then ready for a new firestarter, and you don't get your hands dirty.

Thanks much @Tier1Terrier & @littlerascal56 ! I'm sure every XL owner has encountered the same issues of coal consumption, it's funny how everyone found so many different ways to overcome it lol

@Tier1Terrier where did you get the Webber brackets at? Store or online?
-
I just use fire bricks in my XL when I want to hold the lump to one side.__________________________
