Dome Shift during cook

Anyone have the issue of the dome shifting during a cook? I was cooking several pizzas (dome temp 600*) and every time I lifted the dome to add or remove a pizza the dome shifted further back.

I had just replaced the gaskets a few weeks ago and have used it at low temps a few times to smoke some pork. This was my first high temp cook since the new gaskets.

The bolts are tight and the bands were space correctly. My LBGE is just a little over a year old. I have already had the bands and hinge replaced because they warped and would not align back up.

Any suggestions on here before I contact BGE Warranty!

Thanks
 Josh

Hey brother, the bolts that connect your bands together aren't tight enough. How do I know? I can plainly see in your pictures.

Tighten those bolts til they bend, otherwise you run the risk of having the dome fall off.

After that, you won;t be having this issue anymore ...

I'm thinking Tim's right. The bolts do not appear to be tight. They should look something like this...

Not sure if that's THE problem, but it appears to be A problem.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I read on this forum that bge recommends 10 ft lbs with a torque wrench. It'll look like those bent bolt pics when done.

  • Re-set your dome correctly before tightening. Your bands stretch under heat and the extra play that is created allows the dome to shift. The Dome can fall off the Egg...you got lucky this time.

  • My lower band has shifted after a high temp cooks. BGE is looking into the issue for me. Seems to be an ongoing issue. I've readjusted at least 4 times, and used a torque wrench on the band nuts.

I've had the same problem after high temp pizza cooks - getting to the point
where I don't look forward to doing pizza. This is the only negative that I have experienced with my egg... well, besides the gasket getting fried after 3 months.

  • the bands expand when you cook at high temps for an extended time.

    gotta really crank them down

Poor design, I battled this for years and my bolts are double nutted and bent to the point were the flanges are almost together. Cooking pizza now and just noticed my bands have slipped:(

I've tried it all...trust me. Strange cause some never have this problem??

This too is an issue for me.  LBGE is only a few months old and I have have to realign my dome every few weeks.  I have even replaced the bolts once.
