Rutland finished product

While I still need to burn the frays off the gasket,  Ron's instructions were great!

Why don't these come on the eggs from the factory?  They're a far superior product than the felt design.

Nice job Aaron, I would recommend that you keep that plate setter free from grease dripping on it with either a drip pan or foil. As it get gunked up with grease the grease will burn with a high temp cook and burning grease smells and taste bad. Wont ever matter for low and slow but if you want to go indirect for pizza or breads not so good. :)

Ive done pizza indirect,  I just put foil on the plate setter,  otherwise,  low and slow it's not a big deal

Not yet, I have a slight lift in the back on the egg (dealer built) and I will get rid of it as soon as it fails and reset the egg when that time comes. Call me lazy lol

That "slight lift" will cause both the old gasket and the new Rutland to deteriorate due to compaction and abrasion. It is being caused from your dome and base not being in the same plane when they are closing and then closed. Since you want to leave the old top gasket on - which I don't recommend - you should at least address the "planes" issue. With your dome opened your springs will be relaxed and easier to remove. Once removed then close the dome and loosen the band bolts. Once they are loose enough to shift then press the dome downward as hard as you can. I have even used a long 2 x 4 and long metal woodworking clamps to compress my dome during this process...or if you have a small child put a board on the throat of your dome and have him sit on it! Then re-tighten the bolts and nuts and re-install the springs. That should solve your "slight lift" for the time being.  BTW you ought to save these directions so in the future after that top gasket fails - which it will - then after you remove the burnt remnants you will have to re-set your planes again.
