OT - Free range Yeti coolers

Upon leaving the hotel in Oklahoma, I noticed a Yeti cooler (20qt) strapped down in the back of an oil worker's flatbed truck.  Not locked, shackled, nor nailed down, but simply held in place with a tie-down strap.  Hmmm ... it's only a twenty and it's white, so that's only about $250 on sale ... not a life ending loss if someone makes off with it.  Kept my eyes open for the rest of the trip across Oklahoma and noticed a number of other Yeti coolers ... some simply floating around loose in the back of the trucks and some held in place with tie-down straps.  Not a single one was locked down against theft.

That trust also extends to helping others.  If you're on one of the back roads, then stopping along the side of the road is a pain ... about 10% of the folks going by stop to see if you have any problems.

My only point this morning is to share a little bit of good; thumbs up to Oklahoma folks for exhibiting a high level of trust and helpfulness.

if you see yetis in the spring in maine near the coast in a truck, slowly back up and walk away. there is someone with a gun and scope guarding a days catch of elvers. there could be a years pay in one of those yetis.

@Jeepster47  ... great post, thank you. My only real comment is that I think the majority of people don't know the difference between a Yeti and Igloo ... before I joined this group I certainly didn't.

Chances are they're poaching.  They're about to be an endangered species.

theres been several poachers caught along the new england coast but there are still permits given in maine to those that have kept them up annually for the last few decades. and they do hire spotters with guns to watch their nets. my thoughts are that those with permits have already made their money and are just waiting it out til the end, its still big money but not like just a couple years ago

Wouldn't have lasted long in my AO around Atlanta....  I once lost a still warm Lawn Boy mower off my carport while I went inside for  a 10 min Iced Tea break.  I never heard a sound...

thats why these guys use yeti coolers =) china and japan have really put a hurt up here with the insane prices they pay, elvers, urchins, bluefin. the elver fishing makes millionaires in a season. the poachers seem to poach more out of state where no ones looking and then smuggle them in

You might be right on the lack of understanding for the cost of a Yeti ... but, I'm still going to stick with them simply being a trusting state.  It's not 100% true, but it seems that each state we travel through has a different personality.

I will add that the Yeti sighting's disappeared at the Oklahoma borderline.  Didn't spot any coolers at all going through the panhandle of Texas and New Mexico seemed to favor cheap inexpensive generic igloos.
