Mold in Egg

I yet again have mold throughout my egg. What's the best way to get rid of it prior to a smoke? Should I crank it up and let it cook out? Scrub out? I'm planning on getting the Smoke Ware Chimney as I have heard that helps to eliminate mold in the future. Thoughts?!?! Thanks to all!

Fire it up and burn it out. 500-550 should do the trick.-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

How long between cooks is this happening? Mine mainly only sees action on the weekends. I keep mine covered with the factory cover, daisy wheel open and haven't had any issues.

I don't live in a mold easy environment, but it if you increase your egg use with an occasional hot burn you might reduce your problem.
Also, vinegar kills mold spores at the roots.Steven

Happened to me last week. I've been using the Jr so much that I hadn't fired up big brother.
I I took the temp to about 550 and then scrubbed it down with a brush. Good to goAugusta, GA

Thanks all. Unfortunately I am traveling a lot for work and have been neglecting my egg! Lately only getting her going once a month. I live in GA so mold is as common as fried food! I'll get her up to 600 then scrub it down. Once I get my new chimney it will allow the grill to breathe and should eliminate the mold issue. Thanks for the input!

It will not eliminate mold, but will greatly reduce it.
I keep my eggs open to breath with the SW cap, but found some mold on my food grate yesterday. Did a low and slow last, but forgot to open it up for a while to clean off the food. That is an important step to reducing mold.

I have smokeware caps, leave both Eggs' vents open, but still have found some mold growing if several weeks go by on at least one occasion. Air flow definitely helps, but it may not completely prevent it. A clean burn will get rid of it. I'd probably go at least 600 for an hour or so.

Anyone have a picture of this mold? I live in Florida and sometimes go a few weeks without using but haven't notice any mold growth.

That smokeware cap won't do jack for the mold issue. Don't let the propaganda sway you. Just open up the bottom and top vents and let air in there.Dave - Austin, TX

@Terrebandit ... the trouble with ugly daisy is that it also lets in the rain when it's open. The SW cap overcomes that problem ... simple fact, not propaganda.

Never had this issue and mold is as common here as hipsters with PBR. MM stays closed now with Smokeware (before with ceramic cap). LBGE closed up with ceramic cap. My only guess would be regular usage keeps it at bay. Hope you get to use yours more often.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL
