Help with dome adjustment

I have a medium Big Green Egg that I cannot seem to get the lid adjusted right. It was fine until a couple of weeks ago when the gap between the body and lid seemed to expand. My gasket  looks to be in good shape, so I adjusted the bands and all seemed well until I lifted the lid a time or two. This left a rather large gap between the two. The bands are tight. I'm thinking there is something wrong with the hinge but I have no idea what. I did tighten the hinge bolts a bit but have no idea as to how tight they should be. I did over tighten them at first making the lid impossible to open. Any ideas as to what the problem might be? The hinge is spring loaded. Thanks for any help.

Photos of the bands and hinge on the closed position will help. No need to mess with the preassembled hinge. The bands do not fit very far on to the ceramics. Must be parallel and the bands will basically line up with the edge of the ceramics just above and below the gasket.

  • I will have to wait until tomorrow to be able to post any pictures, but my bands are not on the egg quite like you say. They seem to up a fair amount higher than the gasket, and they aren't really parallel. I will redo them and see what happens. The reason I fooled with the hinge bolts was that the lid felt different when raising it. Now that I have messed with it, can you give me an idea as to how tight thehinge bolts should be?
