I hope I ordered the right gasket and compound. Any advice on installing?

@RRP. Chime in here. Should have messaged I'm first.

It's a shame you didn't find @RRP sooner, but I"m sure he would still be willing to share his direction set he gives with a gasket.XL, Small, Mini & Mini Max Green Egg, Shirley Fab Trailer, 6 gal and 2.5 gal Cajun Fryers, BlueStar 60" Range, 48" Lonestar Grillz Santa Maria, Alto Shaam 1200s, Gozney Dome, Gateway 55g Drum

@RRP aka Ron Pratt, Dunlap, IL will chime in and get you all set up on the right track he is the Rutland guru extraordinaire. If it's not right he will get you the right one.

I tagged him for you because he's the rutland guy. By tagging him he will see the post.AaronH said:Sorry, I'm new here. I don't know who he is but I'm sure from yalls response, he is an egg guru. Did I order the right compound and gasket?
Looks like a rutland gasket and looks like the right copper sealant stuff. Just throw the glue that came with it away. Basically you just want to clean the surface off on your egg. Only do the bottom. Start in the back and bunch up the material as much as possible when you put it down. That will give it a nice cushion and make for the best seal when finished.XL, Small, Mini & Mini Max Green Egg, Shirley Fab Trailer, 6 gal and 2.5 gal Cajun Fryers, BlueStar 60" Range, 48" Lonestar Grillz Santa Maria, Alto Shaam 1200s, Gozney Dome, Gateway 55g Drum -
He probably got it elsewhere. But that's ok ... I'll help you.Thatgrimguy said:It's a shame you didn't find @RRP sooner, but I"m sure he would still be willing to share his direction set he gives with a gasket.
First, for me, It was easier to have a second person helping. Picture the egg as a clock at 12 - 3 - 6 - 9
Trial fit the gasket without glue.
Start at 12, then have a buddy put his finger at 3 and put a piece of tape on the gasket where 3 is, roll the gasket out and put a piece of tape where 6 is, then 9
Now you start rolling and gluing. You'll notice slop, that's ok, scrunch the slop together (It will make the gasket wider and take up the slop)
Continue this process to each clock position, scrunch scrunch scrunch.
When I was done, my gasket was perfectly layed end to end.I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca. -

So, 7ft might not be enough for my egg right?XLBGE /MiniBGE / Maverick 733 x 2/ Woo2 / CGS 17.5 Stone

It should be long enough. Fold the gasket in half, mark the bottom bend with a piece of tape 6, then fold again, mark the gasket bend 3 and 9.
The 7 ft should be plenty long. Start on top, have a friend hold the gasekt to the egg where the 3 is. You'll see slop. scrunch or bunch the gasket together. The gasket will get wider.
Continue until all the slop is gone then continue to six and so forth ..

No, 7 foot is not the proper size Rutland for his XL - he needs one continuous piece 9 feet long rather than to buy 2 7 foot blister packages and then throwing away both tubes of that Rutland adhesive plus throwing away 5 feet of unused gasket plus having 4 butt ends due to splicing vs. just 2 butt ends.SoCalTim said:It should be long enough. Ron, are you angry at me for trying to answer his question? Sounds like it brother. Sorry if I may have stepped on your toes brother.RRP said:

No, not at all Tim, but I didn't feel it was right to let your answer stand since 7 feet was wrong. He has an XL and needs 9 feet for the reasons I explained we're cool, bud!SoCalTim said:Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
Thanks Ron, I think I missed the XL ... glad you were able to step in and help him out. TimI've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.
