Flame boss 200 wifi setup

Anyone else have a problem setting this up?  Thought this would be easy, it didnt work in 30 minutes and it is insane setting a password with an up and down arrow.

Shoot them an email via their website. They are pretty prompt and super helpful.

  • The one thing that got me was having to put a the forward arrow at the end.  Otherwise it's dropping the last character.  So, "password->"
  • What @stlcharcoal said. That's the only thing that got me until I actually read the directions lol

  • Got it, after resetting my router and creating a guest network... love the interface, and yes the support is fantastic.

Why did you need a guest network?
  • @Jaime, my wifi router password took 5 minutes to enter in as you can only use up and down arrows... I was concerned my security settings on my standard network were preventing it from joining.  So a guest network with shorter password was mainly a convenience :-).  I have to say, this controller web interface is perfect for a BGE.  Stoker is best for competition cook, but I would recommend the Flameboss 200 for any BGE owner.  Once it is joined you can make changes using the web browser which is the best I have seen for any controller.
  • The only complaint I have with mine is it will show offline a lot of times when viewing the online interface. I did a brisket the other day and left the house. I thought I would checkin while I was out and it showed offline. It's done this a few times to me. Is it just me or is anyone else experiencing this?

Contact the company.  You may need a firmware update. This happened with mine a little while ago.

  • @Arkysmokin firmware update first on the FB, then router firmware update too if you know how to do so.  Customer support is great for Flame Boss.
  • the guest network is to make a super easy network name with a super easy password..... unlike your home network I hope.   This makes it easy to set up because like everyone said, one weakness of this device is the tedious process of entering passwords, etc. once you enter it in and connect once, it automatically connects overtime thereafter.

    Exactly
  • @etherdome I am going to recommend to the manufacturer that they make that a part of the set up instructions unless they allow a method for connecting to the device with a cable for set up.  Its a hassle for sure let alone having router issues!

Thanks. Didn't know that feature of guest networks
