BBQ Guru Party Q

So I used my Party Q this past weekend. I have a BGE xl and the fitment was perfect. Set the party q for 275, making ribs, not enough time for a full low and slow. So my question/problem is, when I open the lid to mop/sauce/spread brown sugar and honey, the part q temp drops to about 180 degrees, which is fine because when I close the lid, the fan turns on and does it's thing. The issue I am having is when I open the lid, the fire receives more oxygen and burns hotter. When I close the lid, the dome temp rises to 325-350 while the party q is blowing air because it is only reading 200-225 and it's trying to get to 275 degrees. Am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Party Q doesn't have an open dome detection I'm assuming. You might try unplugging it before you open the dome, then wait a few minutes after you close it to let the temps come back up by themselves and then plug it in. I used to do something similar when I had an Auber. Definite PITA.

Thanks Griffin, that makes absolutely perfect sense! I will try that next time. Other than that, the Party Q works great!

I always cut my PQ off when I open the lid and wait a while to cut it back on as the Egg retains a lot of the heat, that way you will not have a hotter fire than you want. When the temp starts to rise near your target, I'll cut it back on.------------------------------

Yeah I usually do the same. Since it has no dome detection just before I open the lid I turn the device off and once it gets back up to temp I will turn it back on. Since you shouldn't be opening the lid often it's not a big deal.
